  • wing tanks shut off valve:ATTN Experts

Bear with me. The BC12D that I owned and had a hangar collapse on it is now completely rebuilt. (The fuselage was spared any damage.) The AI (82 years old) says that the logs show no drawing for the shut off valves or (where they should be) He claims they should be under the panel. How can that be when they are obviously up over the doors where they should be! Another question: The valves are not marked on and off as they should be. The positions are 3 0clock and 6 oclock. Is 6 oclock "on"? and 3 oclock (horizontal) off? The current owner, a retired doctor wants to fly the airplane and the AI keeps finding things he thinks are wrong. The wings have been rebuilt with new spars and the airplane is really Oskosh material! Is there anyone who can advise the AI by phone? Please let me know. Thanks JC ......
PS. Im talking about the WING tank shut off valves, not the main one under the panel. Aircraft SN 8216 N95916,1946

          Jim,

I would try to contact Joel Severinghaus, who just sold his very nice T-Craft that he attempted to make as original as possible. He took pictures, there may be some on here, of the wing tank valves that were at the wingroot. I am not an expert on this, but I know he did a lot of research on returning his aircraft to stock. It was the nicest T-Craft I have seen, (in pictures), and he won a few awards with it. You can contact him at [email protected]

Hopefully he can offer some guidance. He was very active here until selling his plane and he posted quite a bit with pictures.
          Cheers,
          Marty

I ALWAYS thought of a BC12D as having the valves at the wing root. My dad owned 43831 and it had em there and IT WAS ORGINIAL. Tell your IA to go F H self. There thats the second post today where blood pressure has risen over yet another F#@% U% in the field. He needs to stay home and watch Mayberry RFD or the Beverly Hillbillys... he probable will think hey are really getin away with something on those new shows too !

Having vented already I return for more. MY BC12D 94984 had em under the Panel...and I HATED it them there. My Buddies has them in the root .... Tell the F&^%*n IA they are both ways . You will hear this again and again .... (Just a educated bet)

Hope you are handeling the weather well. Its been a tough winter.

Again....many thanks! The confusion must be that some BC12D's had them BOTH ways. It really is getting tough to go thru all this BS for such a simple aircraft. We are not talking King Air 200 here! Thanks again all! JC

Mine are under the panel original valves and tubing. On and Off marked on the bottom of the panel above the valves.

I have the drawing that you need in my hand. It is DWG NO.B12-L30. SIX GALLON WING GAS TANK INSTALLATION.

It shows the valves to be at the wing root, with the labeling being 1/4" stencil saying "AUX GAS" above valve, "ON" at 3 oclock and "OFF" at 6 oclock.

there is also a placard that says "REFILL MAIN TANK IN LEVEL FLIGHT ONLY"

Pretty neat drawing. If you need more , give me a call (989)387-4662.

                        Hope this helps.
