Parking BRAKE CABLE

Does onyone know the way that the original parking brake cable attached to the short cabel between the pedals. My original pedals and pedals I have seen on line have a short cable between them. The Hand brake cable has a closed sleeve on the end of it. How did the two connect?

The cable between the two brake pedals normally goes through the thimble of the parking brake pull cable. That little short cable has a swaged-on ball on each end to keep from pulling through the hole of each pedal. You may have to make up a new short cable, thread through the parking brake cable and each pedal, and swage new stop ends. Or, make up a new pulling cable with appropriate Nicopress fittings swaged on the end(s) to pull on your exisitng short cable..

Here's a better picture, it appears that the main brake cable is formed into a u shape with a "thimble"? on it and shortened way down, it also looks like the clamp itself was the only means of adjusting it. And yes my cables are in dire need of replacment, thats why it's a project.

TRUST it! Don't even USE it. It will either let go when you need it, not engage at all, or most likely, jam on and not release (probably on only one wheel).
The only reason it is in my plane is it's on the equipment list. I NEVER use it.
With a little work and regular maintenance, the regular brakes work great, but the parking brake is junk.

Ditto the don't trust it: The only time I use my parking brake is when hand-propping alone -- in addition to chocks, a rope around a post, the fuel shut off, the control wheel tied back with the seat belt, and the throttle friction tightly on idle.

Thanks Jole. Thats the picture I was looking for. Do you know if those cable nuts are original? I do not like the idea fo a nicopress on that short little cable between the pedals. No way to adjust the length and you have to remove the pedals with everything else. Plus if you ever want to diconnect the brake this makes it simple.

Yes, I think those cable clamp nuts are original.

(Nothing wrong with Nicopress sleeves though -- according to a May 1944 Taylorcraft news release quoted in Chet Peek's book, it was Taylorcraft that introduced Nicopress sleeves for swagging aircraft cable ends, replacing the labor-intensive splicing method.)

I'm looking at the 1940s factory parts price list for the BC12-D, and it lists:

p/n 0703, 2 per airplane, Clamp - Parking Brake Control Guide, $0.25

and I think that short length of cable between the pedals that the parking brake cable grabs is:

p/n B-A528-2, 1 per airplane, Cable - Equalizer, $0.20

Good luck finding those little cable clamps. If you do, will you post the supplier and part number back here?

The clamps in the picture are called electrical split bolts, used in the electrical trade everyday. There are a couple of types, one of them match's yours exactly. Larry
