    Tribe,

Here is a question for anyone that has or is restoring a '41 Deluxe. If you have an original inside door handle could you either post a shot of it or confirm a part number? I have a pair of handles with a tag on it that reads
"B12 1185". Tom Baker or Hank Jarrett can you help?

    Thanks,

    Glen Brodeur

    Glen,

I have attached the blueprint for B12 1185, it is used on the L-2 and probably with a B prefix is also used on the B models, I just have no idea which ones.

          Hank,

Great, so they also correct for the '41 Deluxe.

          Thanks,

          Glen

Ok, who made them back in the day? Were they subed out? Tim

The L-2 outer door handle was made by Keeler Brass part #13722. I contacted them several years ago and they could not cross the part number. Drawing attached.

                  Re: Door Handles

I think I had one of those in one of my parts boxes! Were they used on other Taylorcrafts? If I can find it (doing an instrument hunt tonight) I will take a picture and post it. It seemed big and bulky so I thought it was something a prior owner put on. Since the pilots side had an old garage door "T" handle on it, it wasn't much of a leap to think the other handle was a replacement too.
                  Hank
As I remember it, that "T" handle weighed about 4#!
You could have picked the plane up with it if the doors could have taken it.

yep that is correct for deluxe. my deluxe doors were stupid heavy compared to any other door on a t-craft. I swear they were at least 20-25 lbs each fully dressed.

Here are some picsa of from my 41 Deluxe. Look origonal but who knows? The inner handle is held on by a flat head screw. Larry

                        Re: Door Handles

This is my 41 door. The striker and latch mechanism matches some pictures from before WW-II. The latch is an old design screen door latch that is still made and available at a lot of hardware stores.
The 41 door was wood and this is mine after I striped off all the upholstery. The hinge cap nuts are NOT original. The hinges were held in with plain wood screws and were NOT solid. Machine screws and cap nuts are solid as a rock, even if they are not original. Don't tell on us.

                          Hank,

The 41 window latch. Is that something that is availble in hardware stores?

                            Re: Door Handles

I needed new springs for mine to rebuild them and the "Old Dog" at the local corner hardware was helping me. As we were going through all the springs trying to find the right ones he asked me why I didn't just replace the whole latch.
I told him they were for a 1941 antique and he walked in back and came out with a couple of brand new ones off the shelf! They are still being made. Even have the same markings on the case. I wanted to stay as original as I could so I bought them and used the parts to rebuild my old ones.
Yes, they are still available. He said they were used on the old style, thicker wood screen doors you see on older houses.
Can't remember what I paid, but I do remember thinking they were CHEAP!
                            Hank

Taylor used what was available from hardware stores and car parts dealers.

Interesting, my doors are steel with aluminum skin. No sign of ever having a latch like yours on the door or the fuslage. My serial number is 2540 however how many times has it been rebuilt? I have not looked at my CD from the feds lately. My doors are not light but not that heavy either. I will have to weight them.
