you da man! Actually that would be the listed ser# for your paperworrk ( I hope) .... each fusealge has its own stamped number ; that one should be on the little tab that holds the throttle, carb heat, etc.... look on the abck side of it with a light & mirror. If the number is the same then your fuselage is correct and never replaced. Just e-mail me direct [email protected]
Check the bottom of the door hinges for a stamped number and the back side of the sheet metal support under the lower instrument panel support ( the strip with the holes in it for the throttle, light switch, carb heat...etc. There are usually serial numbers for the actual fuselage frame there. The plate on the wood or sheet metal floor was probably for the original plane and may not be the same as the fuse frame number.

I have a '39 BL with a C65 in her now. As Rob said earlier, the boot cowl is pre-war, the cowling on it now is kind of home made like Forest talked about. Presure cowl with a good sized gap (open) around the sides and bottom. It seems to run about 100ยบ over ambient. Sorry, off topic...
Serial # 1247 is stamped on the top side of the upper right door hinge tab on the fuselage. I can only guess that it's original, or wasn't added by some one else, or maybe even that's the only part of 1247 left?? Like some other Taylorcrafts, I'm sure it has a few different airplanes in her makeup.
Going off topic again, I took off the doors and took them home to do a little touch up after flying last weekend. Went back out to the hangar yesterday to put them back on and decided instead to go have some fun "open air". What a hoot!! Visited a few other airports, made a fuel stop, and three hours later was back at Dacy airport.
