Aileron Rib

I was wondering if anyone had an extra or perhaps knew of a source for aileron ribs? One of mine was damaged when the plane slipped off the jack while changing over from skis to wheels. Are they repairable if they aren't mashed too badly? Thanks in advance for any info.

That rib looks like it should easily be repairable as long as both spars are still good. I just sent you the fuel tank mod info in two separate emails.

If you can get a replacement perfect one, use it. It looks easily repairable and should be fixed even if you don't end up using it. :hammer:
There is always someone who will have one in worse shape and need that one.
If you just want to trash it, I will pay to ship it, fix it, store it and pass it to someone who needs it. I just built a shop in my hangar with plenty of storage space on top. DON'T throw it away.

Ray: I hate to demonstrate my lack of knowledge of this sort of thing but here goes anyway. I looked at the aileron (left side) and counted the ribs and came up with 8. The one I need or would like is the 3rd one in starting at the wingtip side. For reference purposes, the fourth and fifth rib, by my count, center around the control rod and middle hinge.

Richard: I received the email for the tank covering mod and printed it out. Its now in the hands of my mechanic. Once again a big thank you.

Hank: I do not know really how bad the rib is yet, I was just doing what I was told, finding a new one. It didn't really look all that bad to me but what do I know, I'm just a lowly bean counter who can barely fly the thing let alone fix it. If the rib is not in to bad a shape I will certainly hold on to it.

No such thing as a "lowly bean counter" (unless you got mis-counted). The engineers have been working with the bean counters since they both worked on making stone spear points.
You need to understand I kind of have a reputation around here for wanting to fix EVERYTHING. I'm a believer that almost anything can be repaired if you can't get another one and never throw a broken part away. Of course, some of the repairs consist of making a whole new part. All it usually takes to fix a part is a little learning, some practice and a lot of patience. The Taylorcraft was built with less technology and tools than some of us have in our garage now. Don't be afraid to try. It's a blast to bring a 60+ year old part back to life.:tup:

I'm curious as to how falling off the jack, your aileron got damaged.
