Is there a known period of inactivity after which the system logs you out?

I couldn't find where I personally could change this value so I assume that
it is done automatically .

Seems way to short to me as I will always have to log in the second time while trying to make a reply or post a new topic.

Can this be lengthened by the administrators? All other forums like this one
that I frequent don't seem to have any time limits. In fact I can close the
program and go back in later that day and still be logged in as long as I didn't log in from a different computer.

I will try to send this now and will have to log in for the third time.

Actually didn't have to log in this time.

I have had that same problem also. If I take more than about 5-6 minutes to compose a posting, it tells me to log in again.

O.K, so it's not only me. I don't seem to remember this happening since the Forum started but did start sometime later on . I wonder if we can have this
issue dealt with?

It has never happened to me, I get on some times and get distracted ( actually do some work!) and forget I am on, notice I have been here for an hour or more with no activity from me and I am still logged in. As a matter of fact I never have to log in; at all, ever! LL

Maybe it is the "cookie factor". I always keep cookies turned off. I have to log in with my secret code everytime, but I just don't like having cookies on my computer. Larry you obviously have your cookies turned on or else you would have to enter your info every time you log on. I would be curious to know if only those of us with cookies turned off are the ones being logged out too soon.

I will...but it's the first time it's been mentioned to me. I don't have the problem myself (Win98 [home] or XP [work]). An email or PM to Admin (Bob Ollerton) might elicit a more prompt response, since I'm a forum numpty when it comes to the software.

I have XP at home and office as well. I will check the cookies to see if that
as mentioned might be the problem.

I turned on the cookies and it didn't make a difference. I clicked on apply so I
assume I wouldn't have to restart . Anyway, hopefully someone will come up
with a solution. Obviously it is computer or personal option setting if some are
not having the probem and others do.

Its an XP setting, I have been gone for over a month and was still logged on when I got back...Tim

I am running Norton and do not worry too much about cookies. I also run Lavasoft AD-AWARE free that watches little stuff like pop ups and cookies. I can safely say I have not had a virus get through in several years. If the cookie is one of those that tracks your moves Ad-aware notifies me. One or the other other always catches it. Sometimes a page will not load properly but it tells me so and I have the option of turning off the firewall for a bit if I feel it is OK. Larry

There is no time limit for being logged in that I am aware of; at least not in the forum software.

There IS a time limit to complete a posting or reply. Posts are locked up while being edited. The time limit is to prevent them from remaining locked up for ever. I will look at extending the time value.
Although I am not positive I understand whats happening to you.

That's exactly what happens to me. I start writing a post, and if I don't finish it and submit it within a few minutes, I have to log in again before it can be submitted. ALSO, when this happens, I temporarily lose the screen where the post was written. I log in, which gives me a new blank screen, then when it says "thank you for logging in" I have to hit the "back" button two or three times to get back to my newly written post, and hit "submit" again, then it gets posted.

Same here. Someone suggested that it is a XP setting which I haven't investigated yet. Another said it was a cookies setting but I have since
tried that and it doesn't help.
