Where do you get your Maule fabric testers calibrated?

You probably wont, and they are not an approved method of checking fabric. Sice it works on pressure, maybe someone has a scale to push against and you can do the comparison numbers.....You can try a calibration labratory or call Maule and ask them. Good luck Tim

Since when is a maule tester not a legal method to check cotton? I don't think there is a requirement to check ceconite or stits fabric since it is not affected by sunlight.

Apparently that is not so.

I just got one for the very first time and assumed that folks calibrated them.

Well the only approved test is to remove a 1" wide strip of cloth, and strip it of all dope/stitts/stewart and perform a pull test. Dacron is affected by sunlight, just not as fast as cotton. Its in 43....Tim

Hi Tim and all,

If the manufacturer specifies the Maule tester it would be approved as would any other test the manufacturer spelled out.

As you know AC43 only applies if it does not contradict the maunfacturers manual.

But another thought, if these Maule testers were used in the Piper strut AD testing wouldn't that require a calibration? How does that situation get handled?

They said 4-5 years. They do theirs each year but that is apparently because of high usage.

I just picked one up used for $62 so I think I'll get mine done.

push it down on a bathroom scale at 80 lbs...... The Maule is only an indication of fabric strength. If in doubt use the strip method. The Seyboth was the most accurate, Maule can be fooled with fresh dope. I use a ball point pen as an indicator. I demo this at the fly-ins here.

I'm NOT overweight! There is a variation in the local gravitational flux in my geographic location. It's VERIFIED by NASA overflights (probably a small black hole in the area)
