  • To the AK tribe memebers

    Greetings,
I'm considering fulfilling a personal quest and take a trip up to Anchorage at the end of August or early Sept. I would appreciate any input from those that live in the area as to points of interest. My stay will be brief but I would like to see at least a couple of the wonders that I have seen and read about over the years. Please feel free to email or PM me.

      Glen,

I made that trip two years ago for a week.

We stayed at the Mellenium hotel directly on Lake Hood. Within walking distance is every kind of flying you can imagine, including a great museum. We use the hotel as a "home base" and travelled around.

The train is a great way to go on junkets. You can go out and back the same day.

My goal was to fly in a Tcraft floatplane with Arctic Flyers on Lake Hood. They took me out in the "bush" for some real Alaska flying/instruction.

It was great, and my wife let me do all the stuff I wanted to do beacuse it was my 50th Bday gift.

Good luck and enjoy the trip you'll love it.

SURE, now I am a member of this group. I made two trips to Anchorage in 04 and 05 for over week each time but did not know a soul up there that flew anything! Had one scheduled helicopter flight but that got scrapped due to weather!

                Larry,

You can always come back! : ) Heck, you may forget to leave like I did 28 years ago!

FYI...Arctic Flyers is still going strong and will have their nice T-Craft on floats this summer at Lake Hood. The welcome mat is out from me as well for anyone passing through.

LOL Wayne Westberg, there in Anchorage is much the same. Arrived there about 40 years ago and never left. He used to fly but he is not now, I believe. He owns a drilling company there, I know him from meetings in the lower 48. Larry

                      Glen,
Are you flying up in your airplane? If so, go to the Yahoo Stinson group and check out their trip planning postings. they are planning a trip up in late July/ early August and have done of the "how to" legwork.

                              Wade.

Nice pictures. We are going thru Palmer every year on our way to Nabesna. You just don't see all those cool spots from the road.
One day I will come up in my T-Craft, it would be fun to try all those spots out.
