  • Changing ignition harness over to 3/4-20 plug nuts?

    Hi all,

I am planning on changing my C-90 harness (with Bendix mags) over to 3/4-20 plug nuts.

I think I'll do this while replacing the wires and re-using the hardware or perhaps just replacing the entire harness.

I am not really sure where to get the materials at good price or for that matter where to get a new 4 cyl. harness with 3/4-20 plug nuts.

    Anybody know of good sources?

    Thanks, Dave.

    Dave,
Unless you just really feel like messing with it, I'd order a new Skytronics harness and be done with it. Should be less than $150. I'm sure the Walmart of aviation, Aircraft Spruce will have them the cheapest. I've sold a lot of them when selling parts for Beuco in St Louis, and have installed a lot of them. I like them. You can also get different colored wires if you want, red, blue, yellow, and black if memory serves.

Skytronics is all I use when I have a choice.

I was in St. Louis this morning and stopped by Bueco. That's when I found out that they were no more. Too bad... I guess I hadn't been paying attention.

Beuco is a sore subject for me. I used it for years when Stan owned it. He decide to sell it and Skyline Aeronautics at Spirit of St Louis bought it. They own a flight school, maintenance shop (the one I quit working for over the T-craft wing spar deal), and the pilot shop. They asked me to help with the move and buy out. Things went well and we shut down the old Beuco on a Friday, moved it in 2 days and were open on Monday. The owners saw it as a "retirement business". Business was good and I stayed on to help get them going, and growing, untill I started looking at the numbers and realized they were taking every dime we made in sales and were funding their other failing endeavors. After 6 months of building sales, getting new customers, keeping the old customers happy and all, they spent the money, I never got a dime in commissions I was promised and when I realized the weren't paying vendors, I bailed. The bank took it back a few months later. They took a great little business that Stan Beumer built over 30 years and pissed it away in less than a year. If you ordered on the phone under the new management, you probably talked to me.
It was handy for me when I ordered from them because they were 1 day ground shipping for me.

Hi cj, thanks for the bit of history on Beuco, I was wondering what happened, I to did business with Stan for many years and really liked him, then I got out of aviation for a few years and then started again some and suddenly they were gone.
Truly amazing how a good guy like Stan could work hard to build a good business over the years and another outfit blows it is no time at all, too bad.

You're right about Stan, he was one helluva nice guy. And the funniest thing I learned during the buyout, and I'm not knocking him on this either, quite the contrary. He and his few employees didn't know SQUAT about airplanes or the parts they sold, but you wouldn't know that talking to them. What they did know was how to treat customers, how to get them what they wanted, and fill a niche market in the area for daily use items. When I worked at Spirit as a mechanic, he delivered to everyone on the airport every Wednesday in person for free, and often brought pizza for us lowly mechanics, you don't forget that. And you weren't buying from Beuco, you were buying from Stan, because you saw him every week, and you don't forget things like that. Yet another reason I was appauled to see his 30 years of work thrown away in under a year by people who knew airplanes, but didn't give a damn about anything other than money. I really enjoyed my time there, being on the other end, but it did no good, the end had already been written the day we reopened for business. I did get to spend a lot more time with Stan, as he helped with the transition, and he was a quiet, soft spoken, wealth of information. Sad end indeed. He cared, the new owners didn't.
