The only thing about Eismann's is the phenolic gears in them. There is a reason why Bendix issues an AD to replace them in there mags. Make sure they are good. I have had one fail on a trip before. Still better than Slick.

p&w radials have been running a long time just fine with mycarta drive gears...probably softer than a phenolic gear.

            Re: Mag opinion

If anyone wants the info to buy the S-20 bendix mags, pm Me and I will give you the contact information, I got a quote for 1350.00 plus 350 core for the inpulse mag. I think that I have come up with the materials to build a set of mags but its still iffy until I get an overhaul manual to find the right part numbers. I may be able to put together a couple of mags from parts once I get the info. Tim

              Re: Mag opinion

I replaced my Eisenmann mags 1-1/2 years ago, after they had become a hot-start problem, and I found out the replacement parts (coils especially) were probably very old stock and expensive. And I have to deal with modern pilots and commuter airliners, who apparently can't see other airplanes if they can't hear them on the radio, and the Eisenmanns generated a lot of static making the handheld radio useless. So I bought the Slicks, with shielded harness and plugs. Not wanting to deface my cowling I got the "Ercoupe" style plug cups, and had a local IA machine the Ercoupe cups to fit. I have been very happy with the Slicks so far. I saved a few pounds weight. When the engine is warm, I can't move the propellor slowly enough that it won't fire and run at the first blade. So far, smooth sailing, and I can hear my hand-held radio (and be heard). It took 61 years to get the first 600 hours on my airplane. I'm the same age as my Taylorcraft, but with considerably more hours of use and abuse. I figure someone else will have to worry about the next magneto overhaul or replacement.

The one part you will have a hard time finding is a rotor that is in compliance with the AD. When I have found Bendix mags that had the old style rotors we could not find replacement parts for them, and they were no good as cores for an exchange mag.Tom

                    Re: Mag opinion

Well Aircraft Spruce failed me, They have mags on special, includes fine wire plugs but they dont have any -8's in stock (K4334-38s) and have not had any since september. So Aero Recip in Anchorage quoted me 40.00 more and I can pick them up next week with massive plugs..... Tim
