SECOND that motion! Now there are only about half a dozen other dedicated Taylorcrafters to get recognized. Forrest! Dorthy Ferris! Bob Olerton! Robert Lees! Bruce Bixler! got to stop and get back to work, but there are a BUNCH of others who deserve recognition. Thanks to ALL of you, especially to our newest to be recognized, Chet!

Yep, I had forgotten but I saw that too. I had the distinct pleasure of sitting beside Chet at Oshkosh this year during the Taylorcraft forum and then went to the authors booth where he signed my his book for me!
Larry Lyons :beer chug: Congrats Chet.

Chet is a great guy and a VERY LONG TIME friend of our family. I was lucky enough to get a hard bound copy of the Taylorcraft book when they first came out. Autographed of course.

            Re: Chet Peek

Over here in the Old Country, we receive Sport Aviation magazine about a month down the road (just got the August one!) so I hadn't heard of Chet's Hall of Fame Award.

May I be the first European to add my congratulations to Chet?

Chet is at the top of my list for helping Taylorcraft with his book, The Foundation has all of his source material in the back room .
He was very modest about the honor presented to him this year at Air Venture, I only found out after I had gone home. For the Record as Chet would say that is Mrs. Feris with one r and Ollerton with two l's...... thanks for the kind words about Chet bye Forrest

                I never could spel.
The spell checker for the forum quit working and I haven't figured out how to re-load it yet.
HEY! We didn't have these danged new computer thingies when we went to the moon! I still have my slide rule and "Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers" in arms reach right now! (AND, I still use both!)
                Hank
                But I still can't spell.
Ask Forrest about my HANDWRITING some time! My penmanship stinks to hide my bad spelling.

One of the Formula One air racing safety engineers is an old grizzled English fellow, who went through the prehistoric apprenticeship system at DeHavilland. What incredible, well-rounded and real-world knowlegable engineers that "antiquated" apprentice system turned out!

This guy is a hoot and a half, and ended his long career as a consultant troubleshooter at JPL and Rocketdyne. He was called in to consult on problems that the younger engineers were having trouble solving. He would take great joy in showing up looking like a relic from the past, break out his old slide rule from a very worn wooden case, and figure out how to solve the kiddies' problems.

He reported to me with great glee that their jaws would just hit the floor when they saw how fast he could get answers out of that thing! They'd ask him just how he solved whatever the problem was on the shuttle, sat launch vehicle, hypersonic, whatever, and he'd stand there in a cloud of carcinogenic Camel smoke with a crooked smile and say (in the most exaggerated but authentic David Copperfield-esque poor English Cockney accent ever heard)... "I'm a f**in' rock'it scientist, that's how!"

Old age and treachery, Mr. Jarrett !

Darrell Romick, Taylorcraft engineer for old factory, Mrs. Feris , Lock Haven under two managements still used the slide rule , I can too , but the new stuff is great . Thje knowledge up in those old grizzled heads is the important part. A spell checker does not do well with proper names.

I took great pride in learning how to use a slide rule in high school. However my teachers never did let me use it; had to figger out the problems the hard way don't you know!

                        Robert,

Don't feel THAT bad about Sport Aviation so late. I get it at the beginning of the second week of that month, so only about a week ahead of you. They don't mail them all the same day.

At one time I got it early like that (about two weeks before the beginning of the month) but then I started getting Experimenter instead (I sure miss THAT!), but now that I get SA again, I am at the end of the list. In fact, I have called EAA twice in the last year to complain about not getting it and they have explained how the printer was late or some such thing. Then two days later, I get TWO issues!

                        Regards,

                        Jack D

Speaking about Experimenter. I'd like to dispose of my collection of Experimenter and Sport Avaition. It starts with Jan 1956 and runs to Fall of 1998. Over 500 issues in total Dick

I was moved by Charlie Harris's emotional tribute to Chet Peek at the Bartlesville Fly-in last night. Chet, you surely deserve the honor of being inducted into EAA's Hall of Fame. I appreciate all of the work you've done on Taylorcraft. I also enjoyed talking to you - and your insight. You're truly an inspritaton.
                            Respectfully,
                            Jim Taylor
