Are the tail numbers done in dope (on a ceconite/dope finish) or another type of paint? Do you favor the purchased paint masks or make your own masks? Looks like a set of masks will only run a little over $40. Thanx

Re: Tail Numbering
You can do them in dope or some other approved paint method allowed in your covering STC. Personally I use vynel stickers made by the local graphics shop. Work great, hold up forever(if you use the good vynel),they can use computer grapics to make them any style you like, and they are sooooo easy to put on. Takes a few minutes and your done....no scuffing,no masking,no mess. Plus you can have them made up for under a $100 bucks in most places.Kevin Mays

Re: Tail Numbering
Is this for your '38? If so the original numbers are 6" high, I beleve, with an NC above . You can scale off some of the factory photos in the book, page 63. You can also have an original Taylorcraft logo made, with the large "T" at each end.

Re: Tail Numbering
Tribe,
Well, this is an interesting topic. We start with 2" numbers, then 3", then 5 and finally 6". So, I had to down to my shop and confirm what I suspected. My original rudder from a '41 Deluxe measures 4"! Did the number size change over the years? Moody Aerographics made my mask at 4". Mike, toss a coin and call in it the air.
Best regards to all

Re: Tail Numbering
Thanx all! I have scaled several photo's and do come up with approx 5" with the "NC" above.
Chet,
Yes, this is for NC20407, my 11/38 Taylor -Young. Would it have the Taylorcraft logo on the tail?MIKE CUSHWAY

You are correct(sorry I doubted). The tail numbering on pg 63 scales within a fraction of 6" high. (47 1/2" x .151)/ 1.187 = 6.04".MIKE CUSHWAY

Re: Tail Numbering
I have searched all the threads and can not come up with a source for the prewar Taylorcraft logo with the large T on both ends(as applied to vert fin). Can anyone advise if this artwork exists? ThanxMIKE CUSHWAY
