Mine's Aunt B. She's a B model Taylor, she's 69 years young, very graceful & in great shape for her age. I found her in North Carolina & I was always a fan of the Andy Griffith show. I know it's corny, but it fits her pretty well. We go sky dancing every chance we get!

My 45 was named "Class-A-46" when I bought her (owner didn't know she was a 45 or she was lying about her age). My wife calls her "Bag-O-Bones" now since she has been "nekid" in the barn so long.
Not sure I want to tell the nic-names I have for the 41. Almost sure to get me in trouble with aforementioned wife. Before I repainted her everyone either called her "The Great Pumpkin" or just threw up at the sight of her. International Harvester Orange with Forest Green trim.

With the new paint she is the Belle of the Ball in Taylorcraft Ivory over Metallic Maroon. Same color scheme as Tom Bakers 41 (who was a huge help in a LOT of phases of her resurrection). As far as I'm concerned she is the most beautiful airplane ever built. Of course I worked on Navy A-6 bombers for over 20 years so my opinion on beauty may be skewed.

        Aunt B. That's a good one flylo!

A friend nick named NC22606 "Old Blue". I like it because she is old, and pretty "bland" in the color department....

She turns 68 years old this month, and treats me well!

My wife nicknamed my last Taylorcraft "Sir Lands-a-Lot" because I'd always just go out and shoot touch and goes for hours on end. We haven't named this one yet, but I want to get it back in the air before someone paints the name Hangar Queen on it by running their finger through the dust.

My T is just referred to as The Project. My C-140 goes by "Ed", the 7AC before it was The Pot-bellied Pig, and before that there was a MacKenzie/Lycoming C-120 called The Beastly Beercan.

I need to work on The Project.

                Re: nick names

I've always heard that people that really love their airplanes name them. I even read about a guy that wouldn't buy a plane from someone who hadn't named thier plane. He figured that if they didn't like the plane enough to name it, they probably didn't take good care of it.
So, I feel a little guilty not having a name for my plane yet. Although I do pat her on the back, and, when thinks aren't going so well I'll say, "Hang in there old girl".
When it's time for me to know, she'll tell me her name.

N44057 is "Ol' Library Books". So, OK, there's a story and it isn't as good as Aunt B or Sir Lands-A-Lot (which are terrific).

Saw 44057 sitting on the ramp and I knew my friend had just purchased her.
Took my seven year old daughter over to see it and we opened the door and she looked inside and said, "Ew! It smells like old library books!"

I said, "Yeah, ain't it great?" Years later, I own the old gal. She still smells like an old airplane and I love it. I often visit the hangar briefly for one thing or another and before I leave, I'll open the door and take a nice big whiff.

The semi-basket 11AC Chief that I own with my hangar partner has a name but it will be painted differently on each side of the airplane. Our wives allowed us to buy this old wreck so we named it after them. His wife's name is Kathy, and my wife's name is Cathy.

So on one side, it will be "Miss Cathy" and on the other, "Miss Kathy"

Ol' library books! Love it. Similar to "Old car behind the barn" smell.

                        Re: nick names

My wife just told me she had named my 41 "Sweet T". I kind of like it (would have liked to be asked, but as usual she picked a good one). Told her I was writing this and what I was saying and she told me the name WAS "Pit T" because the orange and green was the pits and people pitied the owner and the plane.
                        OW! That HURT!
                        Hank

She just suggested "Miss T" if anyone is looking for a good name. DANG! She's good at this. Any one using "T for Two" yet?

My first BC-12D was 'Taylor" not overly original, but appropriately nice. My L-2B is "Ellie" from 'El-two'.

Hank, I was hanging back, reading this thread. But Sweet-T is what I think my bird will be named. I started out with T-Bird but she just kept coming back in my mind as Sweet-T. But as Bob said "she will tell me her name when the time is right". There is a story with that name but it is a long one and not for here yet. I will wait to see if she still has the same name next year!

'Tilly' After my Great Grandmother and the T of course. I usually just call her 'my baby'. Though, over the radiom I hear controllers call her 'a slow moving target'.
