Actually Howard, I had a 22 cal. Stevens Bicycle Rifle hung in section of bicycle innertube. I punched a hole in the tube and slipped it over the handlebars like a scabbard.

Cool idea. I'll bet the rabbits were nervous around there.

The Radium paint can be a real pain. A friend of mine lost a bubble face compass when the overhaul shop decided to dispose of his instrument as hazardous waste and sent him the disposal bill. A rare compass lost and a big fight over not only its loss but the ridiculous bill and who should pay for it. I took my compass home and decided to get assurance in writing before I let someone else touch it. I paid WAY too much for it to let some ding dong trash it because they don't understand how to handle hazardous materials. Don't scrape it off and eat it and it is pretty safe. It's like FAA Regs though. What the law says isn't always what is safest or logical!

                Hm. Maybe yes. Or not.
Seems intense solar activity can sometimes have unpredictable effects on those things:

"According to the NOAA space weather prediction centre, this could cause intermittent satellite navigation [GPS] and high frequency radio problems, especially in more polar regions, as well as bright auroral displays in northern regions."
Earth is being battered by clouds of particles this week but more severe storms later this year could cause life to 'grind to a halt'FAQ: what causes solar storms?

                ops:
