Are you looking for the flat rectangular ones or the ones with the blister? I have a form to tap out the flat ones from sheet aluminum (REALLY simple). The ones with the tear drop blister are a "bit" harder to make.

(Flat ones are on the pre-wars, I think)
Thanks for the reply Hank. I think the flat ones would be fine. I had some with my ship when I bought it but somewhere over the last 4 years or so they got lost so I am flying without any and winter is coming.
I seem to have two different bungee covers on the same plane! I think perhaps one is what Hank calls a "flat" and the other a "blister" type. Both have been repaired multiple times...so I'm going to make a couple duplicates, either fiberglass or hammered out aluminum.
My question: which type (flat or blister) is original ('46 BC12D) or...which type works best?
Also, what's the best material? aluminum does not seem to be ideal, (looks like vibration causes them to crack) would it be better to make them of fiberglass?
The only flat ones I know of were on the DeLuxe models. I made a bondo mold to hammer some out several years ago (blister style). Aluminum works fine, but needs to be made out of at least .040. 3003 works best for hammering.
Bob,
From what I see in the picture of your covers you had blister covers all around but someone couldn't make a new one for the passenger side (not a fully formed one anyway). The one on the right in your picture is for the pilots side and it has pretty much been repaired to death. The flat ones for the pre war planes won't fit on planes with the blister covers (at least my 41 covers are no where NEAR a fit on my 45). I have a buck for the flat ones (they actually have a little stiffening lip all the way around the edge so they are only flat across the bottom. The "flat" ones actually fit up into a pocket in the belly and don't seal as well as the blister ones. The blister ones have a flat "flange" all the way around that (is supposed to) lay flat against the belly on the outside of the hole. I haven't made a blister one since my 45 is in restoration and I haven't needed them yet. My old ones are good enough for patterns when the time comes. I made a set of the flat ones for the 41 fairly fast and am going to make some more as soon as I remember where I put the *@$%*& buck. (For Paul and Wayne, I hope that will be soon- KEEP BUGGING ME). I have the start for the blister buck and I will see if I can accelerate making those now that someone else will be doing the Pretzel Balls and glove box door handles. My first priority is getting my 41 back in the air. Spent yesterday building new "D" window frames for the 41. Now I have to figure out how to install them in an already covered and painted plane.

I remember about 2-3 years ago somebody was selling, either plastic or fiberglass, bungee covers on ebay. I no longer have the site or address. They needed to be trimed, holes drilled, etc. to make them owner built. Anybody remember seeing them?
Aha that is the "guy" I forgot who was doing those ones. They are good ones so ther you go!
I spent over an hour today looking for the original pair I have here from the Feris era, I KNOW I have them just have to find them. They are the blister type of course.
I want to send them out for copying by a member, anybody have a nice metal set?
That depends on what you mean by a "nice metal set" now doesn't it. I have a set in "reasonable" shape (of the blister type Bungee Covers, the other "set" is not your business ) and the base-board for the buck. I need to vacuum wrap the metal masters (to keep the resin from sticking, MUCH easier than all that waxing and PVA for this) and then pack around the master and base-board with Bondo. When you pull out the original you get a nice smooth female mold of each piece to tap a piece of aluminum in to. It REALL isn't that hard, I just have way too many different pieces to make for one lifetime. If someone wants to do the leg work I will help walk them through the process. I don't think you guys want to wait for me.

I bought a set of those about three years ago on eBay Carl. They're still in the box waiting for me to trim them and paint. They look pretty nice, for ABS parts.
I bought a set of those $20.00 ABS plastic bungee covers for my 1939 BL65. They take a little cutting and fitting, and you get to drill the holes in the appropriate places. It was one of my best $20.00 investments in any aircraft part.

I have a NOS pair from Lock Haven. I may be willing to lend them out, but I do have a couple of stamping companies locally that could pound a few out.
Hi, I have been asking for a set for a while, no response, funny now someone asks for them and all these replys. I will be more than glad to pay for a set if you can have them made, or a set of plastic ones. I think this is part of the reason why my bl65 is so slow, and drafty, Let me know, I will send you my adress, or pay you pay pal, or what ever you want for these, Jack
