  • Aileron Stops on BL65

Competing the assembly of a BL65. Aileron travel is not called out on the type certificate. BC12D calls for 23 degrees up and down. What are your recommendations for the BL. I cannot locate a stop for the ailerons. Where are they? Thanks in advance.

They might be inside the wing, but to be honest I can't remember seeing anything that looked like an aileron stop either. IMHO, take as much aileron throw as you can get.

      Re: Aileron Stops on BL65

Although the TCDS might vary, I am sure the BL has the same aileron stops as the BC model. They are on the front of the driver's side aileron universal joint sprocket.

Have a look at this photo. Although you can't see them, there are two lugs welded to the other face of the sprocket you are looking at. These limit the aileron travel.

The U-joint and sprocket in your photos is not a legal aircraft part, Rob. It cannot be a certified part. There is no dirt or grease on it. Please install some dirt so we can all recognize it as being associated with an airplane

          History of N22661

Mr. Hernke. I believe you may own my Father's old Taylorcraft N22661. It sounds like you are restoring it. I have some old photos I could share with you of the plane when it was in great shape and would like to see what it looks like now. Thank you. Larry Brukardt. Email: [email protected]

I'll butt in and ask, would you be willing to scan and post those pictures? I and some others here would be interested to see them also. I’m flying 22606, a BL. It was probably born in the same month as 22661, and I'd really like to see the paint scheme if it's an original. Let me know if I can help if you would be willing to do that.

            Thanks!

I thought the prewars travel was a little different than the postwars.I believe prewars travel was more.

the aileron stop is on the sprocket on the back of the control column on the pilot side. You will have to loosen the cables, relocate the sprocket, and possibly reposition the control wheel unless you have the full round wheels.

Mike - NC22606. Right now all I have are some B&W scans. I'm working on getting better pics. I believe one is attached. I'll have to resize the remaining. Here's another.
