  • Prop overhaul interval

I assume that overhaul intervals for fixed-pitch metal props are as per the manufacturer's recommendation (perhaps by SB?), but is it mandated anywhere in the FARs to follow the manufacturer's recommendation?

I think most run on condition unless you are part 135 or some other commercial operation that has operating limitations that require it.

I have seen prop shop overhauls that had improper paint preparation that caused corrosion under the fresh paint after a few years.

Not required for part 91 operation. Even less of an issue on fixed pitch. Unless you wanted it painted, or has corrosion concerns, don't bother. And only then do an IRAN so they don't un-necessarily grind the blades.
