406 or 121.5. My 121.5 pointer would be about 180 for 6 years. That’s 3 batteries.

For a 406 ELT unfortunately that is about the going price.

I don't know that the 406 ELT's are useless. Once they go off, they will start checking on you within minutes. Plus they can locate you to within a small area very quickly.

I'm still using the batteries from my first 406 elt. 2012, in my flashlight. These lithium batteries typically last 10+ years but I guess it's more about ongoing revenue for the elt manufacturers than airworthiness.
