  • New C90 cylinders

I need a set of four new C90 cylinders, and the options are Superior or Continental. Both options seem to come with everything apart from the piston pins (as to be expected).

Does anyone have an opinion on which are better?

ID:	195773 I bought a set of 4 superior cylinders for my Super Cub project. I haven't started the engine yet so not much info for you but it was my plan to balance the engine, so I was pleasantly surprised to find all four pistons were the same weight within 1 gram.

This indicates to me that there was at least some attempt to match the assemblies in the set.

Otherwise the assemblies appeared well made and well finished and no problems during installation.

I used my Continental valve covers in place of the melinium ones

Scott here is a question for you , As we discussed before I have rust in my landing gear tie strut which I have yet to address but will when the weather warms up, but I have noticed when i look under my fuselage at the gear I noticed that the bungee holders, where the bungee wrap around the bottom of the gear , are sitting below the level of the body of the fuselage, about one inch , the gear looks like the bungees are stretched, is it normal to be that way or are my bungees worn,? They are only 2 years old, the gear seems solid and does not look splayed out.

        Walter, bless your cotton socks.

Scott: I've ordered a complete set of Continental C90 cylinders (not Milleniums). I'll let all know how I get on.

This is not really the right thread for this, but here goes. Rock your airplane from the wingtip. If the airplane bounces on the tires the bungees are probably okay. If the airplane rotates around the upper gear bushings the bungees are soft. One thing I have noted is that the ax handle landing gear bumper are thicker and cause the gear to hang out of the fuselage.

            Good
perhaps we can compare notes as time goes by. Will be a few months yet until I run mine.

When the gear is against the stops, the bungees protrude from the bottom of the fuselage. The bungee covers make this area a little more aerodynamically kind and protect the bungees from the elements, exhaust, oil and dirt.
For an empty aircraft on the ground, the bungees should pull the gear against the stops. If not, bungees need renewal.

thank you for the clarification. I will do that test rocking the plane next time Im outside with it, Im thinking they are ok as they are just below the bottom of the fuselage , It is really useful to get all of this information here. Probably would not get it anywhere else. There was a recent post on the Taylorcraft face book site about some defective bungees of late, just hoping I did not get any of them.
