  • Stall characteristics

    I have a F-19 that stalls every time with a sharp break and roll to the right. I'm wondering if this is typical for the fleet or should I be looking for problems.

    I've not flown a F-19, but several B models. I have never experienced a sharp break. I suspect something is out of rig.

      Check the wing wash out. A properly rigged aircraft, kept straight with rudder at stall, will simply decend as the inboard portion of the wings stall and the outboards continue to fly.

      Depending on the covering system used, continued shrinkage of dope, especially if the upper surfaces of the wings have been rejuvenated, can actually change the wash of the wings.

        23012 airfoil is known for a sharp stall, but the dihedral, washout used in a Taylorcraft, and proper aileron rigging makes it a very soft stall.

          Breaks to right - lengthen the right rear lift strut some (like one turn of the outboard threaded fitting; increase the washout of that wing) and retest. The once rigged properly add VG's to the wings and tail and retest. Either way they should stall both wings in level flight uniformly if the washout is correct.
