Currently there is a McCauley 1b90 CM 7445 stuck onto the front of my BC-12D. My son and I have been talking about trying to put a landing in each of the lower 48. Just an idea with lots of things to think about. One item is changing the propeller to more of a climb prop. To save a little weight we were thinking of changing to wood. Besides the extra maintenance can you guys share pros and cons of choosing wood? Does a lighter prop spin up faster giving better climb even with a slightly steeper pitch?

The Mac 7445 is a compromise prop, i.e. good on all fronts but not fantastic at any of them (jack of all trades, master of none, if you will). But for that reason it is highly useful & desirable & valuable.
A wood prop will not perform as efficiently, and may be damaged by rain.
In my 65hp Taylorcraft (albeit with a Sensenich metal prop) I have flown all the lower 48 since 2015 (despite living in the UK and the lack of transatlantic travel in the last two years). So I'd suggest you stick with what you've got.
(As an aside, all new Mac fixed-pitch metal props are made by Sensenich!)

The unfortunate truth is that while the wood props look nice, are lighter, and run smoother on the engine, they are simply not as efficient as the metal prop. Until the FAA finally allows a newer more efficient wood prop to be used you will have to determine whether you want the best performance or the niceties of a wood propeller.

Mea culpas aside: thanks for the replies and help as we get up to speed with the airplane. We can fly this prop for the summer and then make a determination of it's better to change the pitch. Replaced the skis with the wheels a few days ago and the strip is almost dry enough to fly.
