Does anybody know if any World War II Taylorcraft "grasshoppers" were every originally painted any color color besides olive drab?

There were a few silver L-2's. Dick Huish would have known which ones and how many. But for the most part they were just OD.

TG-6's were silver so when I restore my L-2 that started life as a TG-6, it's going to be silver as homage to its history

I would imagine that individual squadrons may have added their own touches like nose art etc..

Whatever you do, please do not put invasion stripes on it. They were used Stateside for training, never overseas. The couple I heard that went overseas have proved hard to prove. Pictures I have seen of training aircraft were silver, but OD is also correct. If on FB, look at Jon Martin's very nice L-2M.
            Cheers,

In the photographs I have seen, Civilian Coastal Patrol L-2s (BC, BF, BLs) remained in their existing paint, retained their civilian registrations, but gained large black roundels with white triangles (sometimes applied "upside down," IE large side up) and large two digit radio call signs on the fuselage. Making the paint-job quite "busy."

My '42 deluxe never flew with its original N number and left the factory in OD paint. I know this because it still had its original fabric on the fuselage, and while they had repainted the top and sides, the belly was still in OD paint.

Do you know if it had been pre-sold (to a civilian) before completion, or if it was one of the ones snatched up by uncle out of inventory or off the production line?

My 41 BC12-65 was shown as sold to a private owner and then was "drafted". I was told she was a sub hunter on the mid Atlantic coast but the records don't show she ever found one. Hopefully at least kept their heads down.

The one I am doing due-diligence on was bought by a government agency (probably off the assembly line or from inventory, the records just say 00.00.41) and delivered to the CCP (Civilian Coastal Patrol) near Brownsville Texas, where it flew patrols over the gulf. Then it was transferred to the US Army Air Force (maybe when the CCP was folded into the CAP?) before being sold to it's first civilian owner. I don't believe it was ever painted OD.
