Are there any reference documents for the aileron cable lengths for the BC model Taylorcraft. ?

I can measure the length of one if you need. You actually have quite a bit of leeway on adjustment. You will have almost two inches just from the turnbuckles, and you could make new links in whatever lengths you need.

Thank you for your offer, I thought there might be a printed reference for it, My IA thought it a good idea to replace all the old ones as they are probably 74 years old , apparently AOPA recommends they are replaced every 20 years or so. If you have one handy to measure that would be fine , are they both the same length ?

Make them LONG with one end open. They all seem to end up different lengths. Also make SURE your turnbuckel ends can pass through the fuselage guides so you can take the wings off without cutting the cables!!!! Learn from the mistakes I found!!

There are four cables in the wings, two each side. There are two that run from behind the baggage to the control column behind the panel. Then there is one or two that will tie the two chains together. you can check to see if there is a turnbuckle behind the cross bar on the "H" column. I can get the length of the four in the wing fairly easy, but I won't be much help on the others. I'll get the length when my son comes back in from mowing.

20 years is bullshit in a taylorcraft, Cessna or piper under tension maybe... I prefer galvanized, others prefer stainless cable, it’s about six one half dozen the other. Tim

How do you load test them after you make them?

If you use a nicopress, you aren't required to proof load test them as long as they pass the go-no-go gauge. A 60% proof load test is required for swaged assemblies. That's from AC43.13

                    Hey John, Thanks.

I have been proof testing my nicopress cables for many years and only today noticed that the proof test statements are not in the nicopress section of AC43.13-1b after you said it.

Proof testing isn't bad but I had mis-read the book.

                    Thanks! Dave.

Dave, I totally agree that proof loading isn't a bad thing! It's not probably that tough to set something up to do it fairly accurately!
