The female threads that secure my oil screen to the engine are messed up and I need to tap them. My best guess is, the threads are 1 3/4-16 (does that sound right?). The cheapest tap I can find is selling on eBay for $96. Does anyone have one I can borrow?”

If I was in your spot I might try taking a smaller tap that had a 16 pitch and use it as a thread file to clean up the internal threads on the accessory case.

Ever used a "poor man's tap"? You take a bolt with the right thread, spin a nut down to the head, use a DREMEL to cut a length wise slot down the threads and unscrew the nut to clean up the thread. Steel bolts are good for a number of thread clean-ups before you wear takes them out, Especially good at cleaning up threads in aluminum. Cost? Under a Buck. Be VERY careful of chips in the threaded hole!!!!! (I know YOU know that, but remember EVERYONE reads these posts.)
