That was the problem (one of many) with the 40 I was going to restore. I also am getting close to doing my 45 windscreen and it has a 1010 steel fuselage like a pre-war but looks different than my 41. That dimension could tell me if my fuselage is a left over from pre-war or used left over steel in a post war fixture.

Fuselage structure is the same. The difference is in the boot cowl. One the prewar the bootcowl extends further down to meet the half moon dash at the lower cross tube. The postwar dash is more retangular and therefore taller, so the boot cowl does not go as far down on the door post.

I think the difference in the edge comes from the shape of the instrument panel, and not a change to the airframe.

This back from LP Aero Plastics. It makes sense that if in doubt, order the 651(B-A700) and trim to fit if needed. I was happy to see that both are the same width.

    Hank,
As another point of reference, my '38, '39 and '40 fuselages all measure 24 1/8" to the top of the dash carrythru fube. Tape is hooked on the top of the wing root fitting.

    Mike,
Does boot cowl width affect windscreen in any way? My 1938 has a later closed cowl firewall.

B-A700 fits prewar so it will be longer at the door posts for half moon dash. 1551 fits postwar so its shorter at the door post to match later retangular dash.

I will make my own for the '38. I want to just get 599er back in the air. Its a 1940.

Who can quiclkly tell me the difference between the PN# 651 and 650 windscreens. I have an order in to LP Aero but they cant even give me a dimension to double-check. My screen is 36" wide at the wing roots.
