  • Ralmark ball bearing pulleys for Taylorcraft

The folks at Classic Aero Support are working on placing an order with Ralmark for 3” and 1 ¾” pulleys. These are a special production run for Ralmark and require a sizeable order be placed to start.

The ball bearing pulleys make a significant improvement in the feel of the controls and reduces the effort required to move them about.

You can reach them at 480.650.0883 (Arizona)

One of the best additions I ever did to my Taylorcraft. Got mine at Classic Aero, too.
    Cheers,

Best money I spent for my pulleys along with rechroming the yoke shafts, my controls are Cessna smooth.... and they were $25 each for 16 pulleys, but that was a few years ago. Tim

From previous forum discussions, I believe my 1947 BC12D needs (6) 1 3/4" and (10) 3" pulleys. I placed an online order with Classic Aero several weeks (details below) with total cost ~$500. I phoned them to confirm the order and haven't received a return call, so maybe they're waiting to determine whether they have enough interest to complete the order.

Hank, you have to figure out how many you need, there is no set or kit. I know Chuck posted the number but it was different for my post-war BC-12D. I posted the number somewhere on this site, I will try to find it.
            Cheers,

I bought a set and ended up with a couple small ones extra I guess for the tail or rear fuselage. We did all for the wings and whatever was accessible in the cockpit and baggage. Had to reset the correct chain to control teeth spacing (one wheel was crooked and off a tooth) and cleaned and lubed all the moving control joints. Best investment for controls. Oh and lubed the aileron bell crank under the cork plug that was covered with 70+ years of dirt.

                  Gary,
Would you want to sell the 2 extra 1 3/4" pulleys? I bought a set of the 3" but they were out of the 1 3/4". The roller bearing pulleys really did make quite a difference in mine too.
                  Thanks,

Maybe until I check with my mechanic to see if they are to be replaced on my plane. I'm not being difficult just don't know why I ended up with FIVE of these from my order from Classic Aero: https://shop.classicaero.info/PULLEY...-BB-229-AA.htm

Thats OK-If I remember correctly there are 2 of the 1 3/4" just under the instrument panel on each side and 2 just above the windshield pillar post on each side for the aileron controls and there are 4 more for the rudder and elevator controls.

Ok thanks for that. My receipt from Classic Aero 12/11/15 indicates I was sold 10 BB-228-AA 3" @ $31.26 ea., and 9 BB-229-AA 1 3/4" pulleys @ 29.80 ea. Shipping was ~$10.00 and the total came to $590. So If we replaced the four in the cockpit you mentioned (yes it happened no alcohol was involved) then that would explain the five remaining 1 3/4" pulleys.

And somehow I ended up with two new trim pulleys from the former owner that have the V-notch for the trim cable. Ok.

So I guess for some reason it was determined that the fuselage pulleys weren't going to get replaced at that time. I wasn't about to crawl back in a one way fuselage rat hole for that, and the mechanic is a good 50# larger than me so he didn't either. Maybe he's lost weight and wants to go back in a cave for $115 per hour. I'll ask.

If you need the pulleys now let me know as I assume they can be replaced back to me later when CA gets their order.

Im pretty sure-can look next time I'm at the hanger-that if the inspection cover holes are in the correct places that you should be able to replace them thru the holes without having to crawl back into the fuselage. I Know what you mean about not wanting to crawl back in the fuselage-I had to do that not long ago to adjust my trim cable tension and don't want to that again anytime soon-getting back out is no fun at all! If you do decide to sell the 2 pulleys just let me know and how much and I would be glad to buy them.

FYI, prewar columns have 2 extra pulleys in them that the postwar does not.
