    Re: Mageto's for c85-12

Last year at about this time I received 4 LA-4s to repair. I had a stash of new coils so used them in an effort to make the mags like new, new platnium points that I had a stash of, condensers, and most other parts. Both pairs were from Ercoupe owners, one here in Texas and one in New England. Needless to say the cost to the owners was pretty high. The guy here in Texas was happy to get them but the guy in New England never paid me in full. So now, I regret parting with my new unobtainium parts to a deadbeat.
I was still able to get new parts including coils a year ago from Fresno even a couple of new magnet rotors. I have had others wanting me to work on theirs, but after all the time I spent last winter with a return of maybe a couple of dollars per hour of time invested I refused to take on any more.
Most of the new parts I had were from a long time ago from Lou Libee but ones I bought last year were from Fresno. I had stashed coils, condensors etc years ago because I was still operating my Franklin in my Stinson with LA-6 mags which I had for more than 44 years. The Eisemanns were so reliable I never had to use my new parts. In 2012 I installed a Lycoming 180 with Bendix shower of sparks mags.
In my opinion, Bendix are good, expensive mags, Slicks are junk, and Eisemanns are easier to work on than Bendix and as good or better.

Got to agree, I love my Eisemanns! Easy to work on and tough as nails. ANYONE who wants to get replacement mags for a failed Eisemann and use their old ones as cores for trade PLEASE let us know here. We will trade you a core mag that really is junk for your Eisemann. Slick just wants to get them out of the system. They don't part them out, they destroy them.

Ahh.. Lou Liebee, been a long time since he was around "SORRY, NO PHONE" wasn't that in his Trade A Plane ad?

I still have a stash I bought from him, Bendix mag parts, BG plugs (4B2S maybe and connectors), NAS carb kits and new old stock tapershaft prop bub still bagged and in the box.

Sorry for the diversion, hadn't seen that name in a while.

Likewise I agree totally. Love the Eisemanns. My set on my UK Taylorcraft have run >3000 hours with basic maintenance, cleaning, new bearings (I made a bearing inner race removal tool), points, condenser, coils as necessary.

Any chance you have drawings of the bearing removal tool? Haven't needed it so far, but only a matter of time and the tool kits for them are harder to find than the mags!

              Re: Mageto's for c85-12

No drawings, Hank (made by thought process alone!).

The issue with the two Eisemann inner bearing races, on the rotor, is that there may be no undercut beneath the race to insert a thin bearing puller. This is where shims may or may not go to get the correct race axial spacing. Short of tack-welding a device to pull them, which destroys the race, you need a puller that uses the groove of the race itself, to pull the race off the shaft. As you know, the shim placing is an iterative process, so race removal and reinstallation may be required during shimming.

The same applies to the outer races in the cast magneto body of course (where both axial and radial shims are required), but I use a different plan of attack on those.

              My home-made inner race puller:

I am impressed! You did this in "thumb nail" mode without drawings?!?!?!? I AM IMPRESSED!

What are good Eisemann mags worth? I have an A-65 I'm either going to sell or part out and I have two good Eisemann mags plus a spare Eisemann.

I don't know about anyone else, but I rarely buy parts anymore. I mostly trade. What is REALLY valuable to someone who needs it is almost worthless to someone who doesn't. What do you need that you would trade for?
