  • Cowl hinge brackets needed

I'm looking for the brackets, one on the boot cowl and the other on the nose bowl. when my son bought his airplane it was in pieces, now that its going together, we cant find them.
this has the original hinge style, not the piano style hinge
any help would be much appreciated

At some point a fellow posted a link to a car restoration site that sold that hinge hardware it was for an old car like a Model A or T.

    Marty will remember I bet.

They had the hinge material, but not the end brackets. You may have to make your own. In the past year I remember someone having a set they made, but I don't remember who it was.

I found the ones for the cars but they weren't exactly the same (close and usable, but no cigar). If you use them you need to get teh hinges too. I am not sure the ends will fit on the original hinges. The auto hinges actually look a bit more robust than the originals, which would be a good thing.
I was going for anal accurate and actually made my own end pieces. Like making my own instrument panel from flat sheet, I won't be doing THAT again! I thought I had some photos of the ones I made but can't find them right now. I will try to post some photos as soon as I can take some. For now, this is the auto ones. Note that these look like the original aft one with a flat face. The front originals had a curved front end that went out over the nose bowl about 3/8".

I think the ones I remember were from someone at Oshkosh last year. They were stamped out of aluminum like the originals.

Bit late on this but if you're still looking for info...
I made mine from chromoly steel 050
                        here is some info: http://c-fclr.blogspot.ca/p/firewall-forward.html

Note that the bracket itself is steel and there is a cover made from soft aluminium. My covers were reusable but if I had to make them I would form from 6061 T6 and weld the two corners. I think you'll get a satisfactory result this way and given they are just for appearance...

                            Thanks
Dogged determination and patience to the point of compulsion as much as craftmanship I think. Lets just say the error pile is as big as the trial pile!

Having said that, I was fortunate enough to have a father that took the time to show how to fix all kinds of things when I was very young, I had a great shop teacher in the UK growing up, and was fortunate enough to work with a true (Italian) sheet metal " magician" in Montreal when I had my FBO in the 1980's.

A lot of the work I'm doing on CF-CLR is new to me, and success really does live in "if at first you don't succeed......"

The hinge brackets worked first time though!

Of course one reason my project is taking so long is because I keep taking on potentially unnecessary fabrication tasks. Case in point, I spent July making new baffles. I could have repaired some of the old ones but....

Here's a sneak peek of my next blog update:
