  • Auxiliary Battery

Happy first day of spring. I have a question that is not about a typical "electrical system" but more of a supplemental. Does anyone have a battery of some type mounted in perhaps the cabin to run things like intercom, handheld radio and perhaps lights? My bird is wired for everything including lights, but no electrical system, wind generator or battery. I was considering doing something that could at least run a radio and gps for a few hours and just put it on trickle charger in the hangar. If it could one day run lights for an hour or so, even better.

    Thanks,

    DK

    Re: Auxiliary Battery

I think you are a week early for Spring.

There are several options for a battery like you are asking about. Do a search and I'm sure you will find something.

I got a 7ah sealed battery approved, they are typically used in emergency lights. Mounts on the floor on the pilots side just in front of the seats. Tim

Did that and mine even fits in the replica of the original battery box right in front of the seat on the floor. First one is an original floor board and box, second is mine and third is replica box next to an original.

          Re: Auxiliary Battery

The previous owner of my BC-12D wired it to power an intercom, GPS and handheld radio. He used something similar to this to power it all but much smaller and lighter. His only had a single cigarette lighter outlet.

Put it behind the seat before you fly, take it out and charge it up after you fly.
