Re: Taylorcraft Crash
Tim,
I believe that plane was on a cover of EAA Vintage, or something similar. They may have done a story on it. It was painted in a National Air Race scheme, (I think).Cheers,

Re: Taylorcraft Crash
That is one of the airplanes that either belongs to the aviation high school at Lakeland, or one of the instructors there. The airplane has stopped here at Olney on the way to Oshkosh before. Anyway it is regularly flown by the kids in the program. Those little Lycoming's will crack between the cylinders on the crankcase. With all that oil down the left side I would almost bet that is what happened.

Re: Taylorcraft Crash
That is too bad, Tom. What looks like a nice pre-war, wrecked.
I like how the article is written, like it was written by a high school friend of his.
I don't want to second-guess, but I wonder if the oil panicked him and he thought he couldn't reach the airport and chose the golf course or if he really could have reached the airport. The article stated mechanical problem, not that the engine had stopped. Too many scenarios to know right now until further investigation has been made.Cheers,
Marty

Re: Taylorcraft Crash
I would NOT call this plane "destroyed". It looks to me to be well within the category of "restoreable". Someone who is close to the plane or owners needs to let us know if the insurance company intends to write her off. I am SURE many of us would want to buy her to rebuild. PLEASE don't let this plane go to the scrappers!!!!!
