  • Carb Air/Heat Box and Bracket Filter

    Hi All
We are finishing up a C85-12 for install on my 1941 Deluxe
and following the Chuck Avon C85 prototype postings have been extremely helpful. I hope someone can help with this: I need to buy a new Carb Air/Heat Box with bracket filter. Any Ideas, wag aero has a J3 reproduction?? any direction would be apreciated
    thanks

Re: Carb Air/Heat Box and Bracket Filter

When I did my rebuild, I got rid of the Brackett installation altogether, and went back to the "proper" air intake. More ram-air pressure, and a neater installation, in my view.

Re: Carb Air/Heat Box and Bracket Filter

Robert Lees' is the original configuration and I would put it back on my plane if there was a way to filter the air on the ground. We get a LOT of dust around here as well as things like grass clippings I really don't want my engine digesting (or trying to). From what I can tell the only time you really need a filter is close to the ground, like take off, landing and taxiing around the airfield (mostly while driving around the field). Above a couple of hundred feet even insects aren't that much of a problem. If I could have a three position Carb Heat I think that would be a better solution. Put the filter on for landing and taxi, live with a little dust on the way down the runway and fly with the filter bypassed.
Kind of think it would be a nightmare to get through the FAA.

Hi, mine has had this stainless screen since at least the 70's.

          All
thanks for the pictures i agree the originals are definitely a cleaner look, i got so much in this engine and it will very rarely see pavement I have to agree with Hank and want to use a filter. Grass, hay, dirt, gravel will hopefully all be common for this plane
I must say the cowlings in the living room are beautiful! The new one looks great!
