  • Wots this bumper for?

    Hello all
I have one of these, its the last part from the last box of parts for CF-CLR. It may become apparent where it belongs but at this point I have no idea.

It was evidently attached to a 5/8" O/D tube. Bump stop for the elevator yoke perhaps?
    thanks for your help

Scott, I think as you suggest it's the forward bump stop for the control column assembly.

There should be one each side.

It keeps the control column from banging against the firewall tubes when you push the wheels full forward. Funny thing is the front of the "H" and the sprockets on both of my planes don't ever get close enough to hit. Both of my planes bumpers are original and look brand new.

          Thanks, makes sense

Guess I'll need to find a second one. Although with the rigidity of the H yoke a second seems kind of unnecessary

The primary elevator stop is in the tail; this limits the up-and-down movement to the limits specified in the TCDS.

I guess the bump stop is intended to prevent over-zealous application of forward stick to reduce cable stretch.

If your systems cables and pulleys are really low drag it stops the REALLY LOUD BANG when your wheels fall forward and the elevator drops.

I didn't even know these existed, I am going to have to take a look. Mine makes that nice bang when the yoke falls forward.

                  Re: Wots this bumper for?

Something besides the bumpers hits first on mine and it sounds like I just got rear ended at a stop sign. You just get in the habit of letting the wheels go forward GENTLY. Of course I have original pulleys in mine and not those super smooth ball bearing ones so my elevator tends to drop pretty gently if the wind isn't blowing it.

I put the super-smooth pulleys in. Bang! if I let loose unintentionally of the yoke or elevator. I try not to do that.

Checked today. No bumpers on mine. Controls never get close to any tubing. Elevator travel is per TCDS.

You can cut a section out of an old 600.6 tire and come close to the cross section of this bumper. Same for landing gear leg bumpers.

Good pics of the bumper. None on mine. Probably will put a piece of black foam water pipe insulation over the tubing just in case I do an outside loop someday:

If you ever hit the bumper IN FLIGHT you will probaby be hearing lots of much louder noises than the bumper makes! Don't worry, after the last loud noise it will get REAL QUIET. ;-)
