I am going to bid on the elevator on Ebay, I am hoping others in the tribe don't bid against me....Its the one with the trim tab. I have to build up one for my airplane so I can fly mine this summer. Thanks, Tim

    Re: Bidding on ebay

    Tim,
Did you notice that is a post war elevator? The pre-war planes had a different type of tab (not a big deal) but unless you have the right stab the elevator will have the wrong number of hinge pieces and won't fit a 41. Some stabs have three hinges and some have two. Make sure it will fit before you buy it! LOTS fo planes have had the stab and elevator changed so make sure to look at yours.

    Hank

If it is the wrong one let me know. I have some elevators and a pile of stabs.

Hank, I am going to Cut the parts out and put them on a Prewar elevator that is 3 hinge or convert that one to 3 hinge. I have 4 elevators and none have trim tabs. Thanks for looking out for me. TIm

        Tim,
I think I have a really nice pre-war elevator with a trim tab in good condition.

I really like this idea of announcing an intention to bid on an ebay auction. We are a small community and it just makes sense that we work with each other instead of against. Announcing an intent to bid offers other interested parties the chance to communicate. I like it.

                Re: Bidding on ebay

Hopefully when one of US has something to sell we will do it HERE first. I like the idea of keeping parts in the Tribe, but when a tribe member is selling I also like the idea they can get the best possible price. If offered here first by US and deciding who wants it most when someone else is selling we "should" be able to get the best of both worlds.
To make it perfect, we wold need to get the word out to ALL the people interested in Taylorcrafts that we are here. I STILL come across "T" owners who have never heard of us!

                  Re: Bidding on ebay

                  Interesting discussion.

It was about a year or two ago that I said that we aught not to be "stepping on" the post of folks who put items for sale here. That suggestion was a result of observing the for sale posts. By "stepping on" them I mean things like adding debates, offering similar items on that post, raising questions that change the subject and so on.

Some suggested and I recall that was the last word on the issue that there are better places to advertise where such pitfalls are not present.

I think he (whoever that was) was correct and I have avoided using the for sale section for that reason.

Feels like we came full circle.

                    Re: Bidding on ebay

I have to agree with Dave on this one. There is a potential of hard feelings over items sold here on the Forum. I understand where Hank is coming from but everyone in the world can buy from Ebay, and to a lesser extent Craigslist. That means every Taylorcraft owner has a chance to buy the item and the seller has a chance to sell it for what it is worth. If a seller wants to sell an item here, that is all well and fine but if a seller wants to sell something on Ebay that should be fine, too, and he shouldn't be ashamed to do so.

If someone is looking for an item than post it on the Forum and any potential sellers can contact him via PM. I have had success in obtaining items I needed by posting needs here.
                    Cheers,
                    Marty

One thing I DO like to do is contact sellers and let them know we are out here. A lot of times buyers have no idea the Tribe exists. It cost nothing to let them know who we are and get some new blood in. There are a LOT of Taylorcrafts on the FAA registry who are not here.

                        Re: Bidding on ebay

Usually I am contacting Ebay sellers to let them know they either have a Taylorcraft part or do not have a Taylorcraft part. I figure if they are selling they may be getting out of the hobby, (and their plane).

                          Re: Bidding on ebay

Starting this week, I will be listing all my stuff for sale on ebay, but it will be in a store at fixed costs. That way every one can see it all the time, and know what i am asking for it. That way I don't have to answer the same question 10 different times to 10 different people. Hopefully it will be easier for me as I have a ton of stuff I need to unload, unless someone wants to get into the parts business and buy all of it.
