Oh yea, I forgot about that! First time I was tightening the nut and the step moved. Hits pretty quick that it SHOULD NOT do that when the nut is tightened! Don't ever remember seeing a warning not to tighten it, but it IS a shear joint with no tension along the bolt.

So everyone with a torque wrench that can measure 8 inch pounds please raise their hand.
      and...
At current shop rates, it is 5 times more expensive to measure the torque on an old nut than it is to throw it away.

        Hi Mark,

I confess. I do have a hex drive screwdriver handle torque tool that will measure it

But I agree I would use a new nut before doing that.

I use the turn with finger test.

Maybe I'll measure the torque capacity of two fingers.

Sorry to make this more complex, shoulda kept quiet, too late now.

          Hi Marty,

Worked for me when I edited the post and then used the delete button.

            Dave,

I have the same tool. I tried to edit the post and delete, twice, it did not work. Screwy site...

Hey Dave, 6th try was the charm.

                Dave,
Your answers are right on target! I'm just amused by some of this discussion and being my normal contrarian, flippant self I had to post about it.
                Best Regards,

                  Now that is way cool!
When I had my dental implant the Orthodontist used a moment-arm torque wrench that was all on 2 inches long.

When I took my '46 BC12D apart, here is what I found:

Wing to fuselage joint - Front AN5-16 Rear AN4-14
Wing to liftstrut hjoint - Front AN5-15A Rear AN5-13A
lift strut to bottom fuselage joint - AN5-25A
undercart to bottom fuselage joint. - AN5-21 (both front and rear)

I'll also add that at the bottom of the LG where the bungee cabane strut (or whatever it's called) bolts near the wheel, I found AN5-17A.

And both of these were found slightly bent. Presumably from a hard landing (must have been the previous owner ;-) ).

Because of this, it's on my personal checklist to pull these bolts out and check them every 5 years or so.

It would be a good idea to check the bushing that is there as well.

Yea, what Tom above said. Check those landing gear bushings.
