  • Moving NC29752

I'm looking for advice in my first post on this forum. I purchased NC29752 (1941 Taylorcraft Deluxe) about 18 months ago and now need to move it about 225 miles from Eastern Oregon to Eugene. The aircraft is being stored on the property of an A and P who had been doing the annuals on it for the previous owner but my efforts to get the mechanic to bring the plane into compliance (annual) Seems to have failed. My plan was to have the Taylorcraft flown to Eugene, after the annual was done, but now I will probably have to transport it in,or on, some type of vehicle. It's worth mentioning here that I am not yet a pilot, but plan to learn in NC29752. There has been some suggestions of a ferry permit but who needs to certify airworthiness? I'm not making much headway with the mechanic on site. I'm handy with a wrench so is anyone willing to offer advice about removing the wings (aux. tanks in both) and the horizontal stabilizer? Thanks in advance.

    Steve,

Where is she in Eastern Oregon? Any idea of what possible issues you're up against as far as potential airworthiness goes? Might be worth a try to figure something else out before yanking her wings. Send me as PM if ya want.

If you end up needing to truck it, I have trailered a couple of Taylorcrafts and it isn't terrible, but wasn't fun either. A U-haul truck is OK if tied down right. I have photos of when I moved my 41.

        Steve,
Hang in there. My advice DO NOT DISASSEMBLE!
Work with another IA to get a ferry permit. A disassemble seems to always result in a lengthy rebuild/restoration, I know….I did it twice. I am glad to hear that you have already purchased the aircraft. It’s YOURS, you make the decisions. Walk away from that A&P. If he has the logs, get them back in your possession. Several on this forum will pipe up with good advice. Get the plane airworthy and enjoy your new journey!

Good advice! I wouldn't take her apart unless you have to. Just don't end up in a position where you have to disassemble and truck her from a farm field!

Does any one know Eric Baxter, he's based in Oregon. Perhaps he can help.

Oregon? I thought he was in Ohio. I'm not the one to ask though!

You might check the FAA AC Registration site to see if there are other Taylorcrafts located in the County or Nearby County. Then check with owners for referrals. Owners of other tube and fabric AC might also be able to make referrals. If you have a ferry pilot lined up they may be able to help. Checking your county might also locate other Taylorcraft owners who might work out as Ferry Pilots.

I will fly it after I get mine back from Alaska, sometime in mid july work? I am also an a&p with IA...

also, never trust a sellers annual without getting someone to look it over that you trust. Tim

At which airport is the airplane located, and to which airport do you need it relocated?

Robin Reid, very knowledgeable Taylorcraft guy, lives in Washington. He happens to be here in my city right now and I will be seeing him tomorrow. He likes to ferry planes, all sorts, and brought my L-2 back from California to Illinois. He might be able to help with how to do it.
                        Cheers,

I'd like to thank all that responded to my post (thanks, Stumpy, for the phone support). The plane is located near the John Day Fossil Beds visitor center in Kimberly, Oregon on a private grass strip and I need to get it to Hobby Field, Creswell, OR. Which is about 200 miles to the west of Kimberly. I will contact those of you who offered help with private messages. I'd love to hear what anyone else has to say about my situation. Thanks again.
