I'm in the process of installing a Luscombe exhaust, and the lower bung on the cabin heat muff hits the gascolator. There was nothing in Terry's paperwork to address this problem. Any ideas or supporting paperwork?

Re: Moving the gascolator
Dave,
Here are a few pictures of my Luscombe exhaust installation. I have an aftermarket gascolator but its still mounted to the engine mount. Let me know if you would like the information on the new gascolator. It is stc'd and is a really nice part. Hope this helps?Greg House

Re: Moving the gascolator
Thanks Greg, I can instantly see why yours fit vs. mine. Your muff is oriented 90 degrees off from mine. The mounting tabs on the exhaust Doug built for me, are up and down like in this PDF.

Re: Moving the gascolator
Dave,
My system came from Wag Aero. Here is a picture of the system without the muff installed. Perhaps you can modify yours to be the same? I like the system shown in the pdf you attached. Definitely a more sturdy installation. I actually replaced a few screws with several rivets to hold the end caps better on my cabin heat muff.Greg House

Re: Moving the gascolator
That is a possibility, cutting my tabs off and rewelding them in the horizontal. I prefer to hold off for the time being on modifying a brand new part though.
I still have the original glass bowl gascolator, and I wouldn't mind upgrading. I know a lot of people praise "Steve's Gascolator."Dave

Re: Moving the gascolator
Perhaps just 'bend' the existing tabs to provide the same support as pictured on my installation? Just an idea?
Looking back at the pictures I took during disassembly last fall were a little startling at how rough my firewall forward looked! Making progress cleaning that up!Greg House

Re: Moving the gascolator
Too heavy, I did one and moved the acs gascolator to the firewall. I installed it with rigid stainless line from the tank to the gascolator and then flex from the gascolator to the carb. Tim

Re: Moving the gascolator
Dave,
Thanks, it has been a lot of work and a little more $ than I would have preferred but she is sprucing up really nicely! Looking forward to many years of great times in our Tcraft!Greg House

Re: Moving the gascolator
Its built like a tank, overkill. I try to get the acs ones for less than 100. I consider what is an industry standard, gascolators have been around for a long time, so pick your poison, 250 for a gascolator, or 100 for a gascolator and 150 for gas. TimN29787

Re: Moving the gascolator
Greg:
How did you find the quality of the left hand exhaust header that you got from Wag Aero? I bought a right one some years ago and it was great, but when I recently tried to get a left one I found the forward flange was poorly welded with pits on the mating surface and then roughly ground off ---AFTER the coating was done. They told me all their stock was like that so I sent it back and cancelled my order. Is yours a recent purchase? What is it's condition/fabrication quality?
