  • Taylorcraft bubble face compass

I have a bubble face compass that was overhauled by Keystone and has a taylorcraft name plate. I don't need it so going to put it up for sale on our fourm first. If it doesn't sell here I'll go to EBay. The cost to overhaul was $250 with the shipping. The folks at Keystone said that this compass is not easy to find and worth quite a bit.

Marty, the bubble face compass is not right for your airplane.

        Norm,

My own opinion would be to sell it on Ebay with a reserve of $650.

If it doesn't sell, wait six months then do the same.

It looks pristine...please don't part with it for what the overhaul cost was.

To be discussed via pm. I am well aware of the value of these. I would hope my integrity is not being called into question.
            Cheers,

              Re: Taylorcraft bubble face compass

I didn't mean it to sound as though I would sell the compass for what the overhaul cost ($250 ). In fact Keystone suggested that I insure it for at lease $700 when I sent it to them for overhaul; ie, new gaskets, fluid and paint. The Keystone people suggested it is worth more then the $700. Any interest? Please make a offer.
              Thanks,

                Re: Taylorcraft bubble face compass

I doubt ANYONE would assume they could get one of these for $250. I think what Marty was saying was he wants first refusal on it and will settle on a price by pm. I have had several items I really needed and that I said I wanted. Even though I spoke first, before I could get with the seller and settle on a price, they sold it to someone with cash in hand. I would have paid more than the cash offer if the seller hadn't jumped the gun.

                  Re: Taylorcraft bubble face compass

That is exactly it, Hank. I was on my phone and had limited time to respond but wanted to get my interest in the compass first on the list.

Personally, I take great offense to Rob Lees suddenly taking on the roll of "Defender of the Compass Pricing". I have never taken advantage of anyone and am one of the first to help anyone on this forum. This comment from Rob Lees, alone, has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I am just about done with this forum. I stewed over this all last night and this morning and Rob's lack of response makes me wonder.

Many times pricing is done via PM messaging as it really is no ones business what one offers for something. I was able to get back later with Norm about the compass and am contemplating my offer, if that is ok with Rob.

And I am very sorry, Norm, to vent on you thread and I hope you accept MY apology for doing so.
                  Cheers,
                  Marty

Rob is NOT a bad guy and I don't think that is how he meant it. We may sound like we speak the same language as the Brits, but lots of times what we write comes off completely different on posts. This happens a lot on the group and it usually ends up that it just didn't come out sounding as intended.

                      Re: Taylorcraft bubble face compass

I think "For what"? was pretty clear, Hank. I have never had a problem with Rob. I have met him at Osh, he has helped a friend of mine with a part my friend needed, that I was the middle-man for. He was kind enough to send me filter paper for my camera, and I was very appreciative. I went out of my way to send the Taylorcraft lube chart where he needed it sent to last year. I have had nothing but praise for Rob, but I think that comment was inappropriate and deserves an understandable explanation. Actually, it was none of his business how much Norm wanted for the compass unless he was asking. He could easily have sent a PM to Norm to let him know. BY QUOTING ME, his intention was clear he was questioning my integrity and I don't have to be happy about it, Brit or no.

                        Marty,
No apology needed. I watch and enjoy the forum but seldom post. I have a lot of good TCraft stuff that I should put out there but I hesitate to sell because of hassle in the buying and selling process for me. This is not aimed on anyone on this thread.

Rob has helped me many times with pics, ideas, and info and I have the greatest respect for him and with all due respect to him, I must agree with Marty on this one....not that it's any of my business but it did come off a little strong under the circumstances.

Most who know me on this forum also know that I have spoke out of turn or said things at times I wish I hadn't. In short, stuck my big foot in my mouth without thinking and felt like I had to have it surgically removed, lol. Maybe Rob is feeling that taste himself, maybe not. I guess that's to up to him to decide.

Marty, you are a friend and I don't think anyone here wants to see you leave the forums. You are an asset I personally would hate to loose. Hope ya get the compass.....and just to think Marty, I was about to fuss at ya for beating me to it(in good humor of course)lol. Then I seen robs post and figured I best not add fuel to what I knew was going to be a fire, lol.

Sorry rob if again, I'm speaking where I shouldn't, but I do agree with Marty.
