Re: Forrest Life and the Taylorcraft Foundation

OK guys, this is my last email for the night! I looked up the legitimacy of the foundation with Guide Star (a good resource). It is not in good standing as a 501 (c)(3) organization. This is what shows under the foundations information:

This organization's exempt status was automatically revoked by the IRS for failure to file a Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, or 990-PF for 3 consecutive years. Further investigation and due diligence are warranted.

    Yikes!

Re: Forrest Life and the Taylorcraft Foundation

I have read the Forums for a number of years here in the UK and on occasions posed questions to Forrest which have gone unanswered or if I did get a reply a brief one from which it was obvious he was a very busy man. I accepted that and now Forrest has come out and bared his soul it is apparent he has been struggling for some time and I am amazed that he even managed to keep things going at all!

He is clearly a Proud man who doe's not easily ask for help, it concerns me that if Forrest doe's have to sell up and move ( I hope not because I can imagine what a wrench that would be for him ) that things could get lost or damaged. Now is the time to get as much as possible on to digital as that is the medium for the future. None of us are immortal and Forrest has so much information in his head that we must obtain in some way for the benefit of not only ourselves but also the Taylorcrafters of the future!

I am the owner of a F22A and there is little in the Foundation for the owners of the newer aircraft and sometimes I have felt it is not a place to be as the Forum is dedicated to the older aircraft. That is a pity because we need to cover the Taylorcrafts from the oldest to the latest F22 models. What we are fortunate to own is an unique brand which needs to be preserved from start to finish? So perhaps whilst those of you are preserving what you can please remember the newer models as well because they are the old one's of the future!

I hope as well that the owners of the newer models in the States can be encouraged to get more involved in the Forums because I am sure they must experience some of the same or similar problems or issues that befall the older aircraft?

I am very fortunate that by chance I own a newer aircraft that has a considerable amount of modern history in that it was flown from the Factory to the UK together with it's Tail dragger sister. The salvage for the latter is now in my garage purchased for spares following a landing accident!

Relatively recently I transferred my aircraft on to a UK Permit (similar I guess to your LSA ) to do that I needed information on the activities of the Factory and the TC holder! I am sure some people got fed up with this Brit carping on all the time about the Factory but I needed the information to convince the UK CAA that I needed to be placed on a Permit in order to keep my aircraft flying legally! without the information provided by some Forum members I would not have been able to achieve this Permit status.

When I eventually wore the UK CAA down ( Sorry Rob Lee's I wore you down as well!! ) in the letter that advised me of my success there was the following quote from The Head of Rule Making for the UK CAA " In recognition of the unique status of your Aircraft in the UK The CAA has decided to treat it as an exceptional case " When I purchased it neither myself or the seller were aware of it's history which only became apparent when I began digging around in the Forums and finally as a result of reading " The Taylorcraft Story " that I realised the significance of what I had purchased! So without the Forum this history would never have been known as the flight from the States was never for some reason entered in the Aircraft log books!

My Point in all this is that history is not solely restricted to the older aircraft and that the newer one's owners should also be given encouragement to join and be involved in the Forums?

Anyway that is my 10 UK Pence worth! I do hope Forrest can keep going and not allow all these problems to effect his health. It is a brave man who comes out like he did and bare his soul to the world!

Thanks Terry and Richard for your comments and insights. This is a time for any/all of us to accept where things currently stand and offer to help in any way possible. That is difficult for many/all to do.

Blessings to all and try to help however we can so Taylorcrafts will continue their long history.

Forrest has been through a lot! Shouldn't we all show our professed Christian leanings in support of Forest and wish him well verses judging his effectiveness at this time? I for one hope he's given time to settle serious personal problems and that he comes thru in good shape. He has helped me by phone on several occasions and at one time saved my BC12D from being grounded by explaining things to an AI who was not up to speed. THANK YOU FORREST!

Forrest, if I had the money and taylorcraft experience I would purchase your place and continue what you have kept going. It is enough for you to tell us the wathwearall of what is happening to you. My hat is off and may things smooth out to you!

All is well in Alliance -14 F last night ... struggling with the cold . I have opened the line of communication with Jessica at the Factory and the folks at Hartford.
The following was one of many emails to Jessica & Dana

Jessica meet Dana ; you ladies may save Taylorcraft!!
                  Best of Luck to All..........

Jessica: , Dana & Paul Osmanski publish the Classic Aviator’s Log which is a combination of
Taylorcraft, Cub & Luscombe all fine tail draggers . The former Taylorcraft Owners Club too!!

DANA : You have been sent my thoughts in separate e-mail copy read and enjoy . Forrest TF#1.

I have been manning the phone as promised for the Foundation on Tues, Wed Thurs afternoons 330 495 5447 . Thank u for the support one and all!!
For the problem tribe members who pay no dues but use the forum for their own businesses ; THAT may come to an end .... I always wanted to allow any and all to post ; many would like that changed.

Other items : I OWN the drawings ; I paid for them and loan them to the Foundation . Mrs. Feris got the money for the spare set of drawings that did not go to Lock Haven.
For the Brit that has a problem ; those airplanes in the UK are problem children that have many issues. That was a silly idea to export them at the time.
I only try to comply with U.S. FAA standards . In the States many folks ( owners) do not maintain their aircraft in accordance with the type certificate
This has all been hashed over many times at meetings; Sun-n-Fun & Air venture ; the annual meeting in Alliance always is interesting !!

I will continue to work with the factory for a few months; planning a trip there in March. I sent them ALL the requests for parts that we compiled in the past
I am in the frozen north trying to exist ; my left leg is in a Cast.
Owners did stop by for a few parts this past two weeks.
The north half of the Airport plus Mineral right s is for sale. I had meetings with Attorneys last week ; it is interesting to listen to their evaluations of what I should do wit the rest of my life.
Call write or wire ; I AM here for the Foundation members ; tribal knowledge is a great thing. web site is changing every day. www.barberaircraft.com
More tomorrow with news from the Factory Jessica says call her with ideas ....

As to the 501 C3 the Attorneys say under 10,000 we do not file those forms . WE ARE FINE . I still issue tax credit for in kind donations more soon.

Forrest, I'm begging you to please send me the log book for the A model I bought from you back in '07.
You assured me you would you would find them and send them to me.
I paid your asking price for the airplane in good faith.
Here we are ,seven years later, and I still haven't got the logbook, and several critical parts for, what your Trade A Plane ad said was a complete aircraft.
It's not my intent to cause you heartburn.
I just want what I paid you for and is rightfuly mine.
Thanks in advance for your prompt attention this matter.

Marty, I think the "folks at Hartford" are the people who bought the Taylorcraft Owners Club from Steve Krog, and they now do the news letter.

Since you own them then what will happen in future regarding the Foundation's access?

Will your prodigy also make them available or is the "on loan" deal only valid while you are here?

Thanks, Dave, who is considering rejoining the TF.
