Does anyone know where to get the fuel shut off valve cover that qualifies for the AD to prevent accidental fuel shut off. My mechanic said the AD requires a 2 part action one to lift the cover and another to pull the shut off. I have seen on the Forum a photo of one that was hinged and cover the shut off valve, I have the part no. B12-947-3, That probably is a Taylorcraft no. Anyone have any info?

Re: Fuel shut off valve
Don't know where he got the idea that a 2 part action is needed. The factory part was a clip that held the knob. Maybe there was a change to what the factory did I don't know about (or maybe your mechanic read it wrong). Please post where he got his information and I will post a photo of the original clip.

Re: Fuel shut off valve
I have seen many different ways to comply with this. I would like to hear his explanation or his source for this criteria.Cheers,

Re: Fuel shut off valve
The one in the picture is what they put on at the factory. I have seen a lot of planes with nothing on the knob (which I think is DANGEROUS and not very smart!....being polite here)
The purpose of the clip or cover is to let you know your hand is on the fuel cut-off and not the cabin heat or carb heat. I don't see any reason for a two step cover being needed. You aren't jettisoning a stick of 500# bombs! You just don't want to be cold and shut the engine down instead of turning on the heat.

Re: Fuel shut off valve
The part you have is the part needed to comply with the AD. The way it should work is that you can not pull the fuel shut off without moving the clips to the side. If you can pull the knob without moving the clips then something should be done to correct that.

Re: Fuel shut off valve
The clip set up didn't work so well with some of the pre war planes that have the tubes welded to the cross tube for the engine controls to mount in. They work with the ones that have the flat plate for the engine controls.
