I need a set of rear window frames for a 46 BC12 that came from the factory as a delux model but somewhere along the line someone removed them. Doing a SLOW rebuild.
Are you talking about the rear window frames as in the photo below? (White, presssed aluminium in my picture)? Mine are from a 46 BC12D, but in reality are probably from a BC12 or earlier...I know not.
I don't have a set spare, but the picture might help you (or others) identify the part, good luck!
If you are looking for the frames in Rob's photo (those are the standard frames from right after the war) I have drawings of them. The only hard part of making them is pressing in the half round groove, but it can be done with a grooved piece of MDH and a rounded dowel.
I also have drawings of the pre war wood frames that are smaller.
The blanks are common but you need two forms. They are mirror images of each other. I have the ones for the 45 as well as the drawings if you want to set something up to make them. Drop me a message at hjarrett2 at cox dot net.

YES... The white frames in the photo is the one I'm looking for. Looks like I'll be making a set as the replies sound as if I could get chicken teeth easier. I do have a friend at DWU that is doing a rebuild and this looks like the way that I'll have to get my pattern, just hoped someone out there had a set.
Thanks for the feedback!!!!
There was a guy in Texas who was selling parts from a plane he was parting out a few months back. Put a request out there on Barnstormers for starters.
The frames aren't heat treated and are made from fairly soft aluminum. I would think considering the loads you could use almost any of the available aluminum's. The metal is about as stiff as what is in a cowl and feels softer than rib material, but I don't have a hardness tester to check. Kind of has the bending resistance of the stuff they use for gutters (at the same thickness).

The pre-war planes with "D" windows had wood frames. They were slightly smaller than the post war ones and MUCH smaller than the big rectangular late model ones. I have drawings for the wood ones too. I made the wood ones for my 41 and they came out fine. A little "fiddly" to mount compared to the metal ones but I think easier to cover around and attach the head linner.
