  • Control sticks for Taylorcraft

I was just wondering if there was a mod/STC for converting the Taylorcraft BC-12D 1946 from a wheel to control sticks.
I know of clipped wing conversions but just wondered if a stock can be converted.

I may be wrong, but I think the stick conversions for the Swick mods have just one stick in the middle for single seat. I might be wrong. Tribe?

There are old pictures, maybe on the Alliance Library site, that showed both a yoke and a stick. The stick protruded from the dash in place of the yoke. I have never seen one in 'real life' though.

Forrest had an original at one point. I thought he said it was never certified so would need paper work etc... It has been a while so he may correct my story or may not have it anymore.

I wish I had a photo of my friends Aeronca tri-gear/tail dragged. Yes it was both the main gear on or near the CG. And another thing it had a stick in the back seat and a wheel in the front cockpit seat. It was certified but I have forgot the number it used. His had a Lyc O-320 in it but unknow if that was original engine.

Seems like there was a discussion a while back that included someone who had flown a plane with a stick like the one in the picture. As I remember he didn't have much nice to say about it. I have a feeling there was a reason no one ever certified it.

Anyone have any more pictures? Swick or otherwise?

I think the original Swick STC allowed for the install of any or all of the modifcations. If this was the case then you could install just the stick control.

All Austers (UK build bastardisation) have sticks.

They took the "H" frame and welded sticks to the transverse part; chopped off the upper arms of the "H" and added the necessary aileron pulleys for aileron control.

I'm re-covering one at the moment. Even engine out, it takes 4 people to lift just the fuselage.

I'll try to remember to take some photos of the stick assembly tomorrow, but the pictures might be marred by the spittle on the lens.

There is a guy named neal in alaska that has a BC12d with sticks in it . Says he dropped 12 lbs when he ldid the conversion. I think he is parting the aircraft out now, got caught by a tsunami one night while beach camping. I used to have his number but lost it. He runs a continuous add for Taylorcraft parts on alaskas list. Im sure you could find him there. Might have the whole works for sale . He is parting out three taylorcraft. Good luck. Murray
