Well, here, let me throw this at you. Illinois, the home of the tax on top of tax, has a requirement that we register planes and pilots. (Of course they charge you for this). They give you a nice little sticker that is in the outline of the State of Illinois you have to put on both sides of the plane. Mine never seem to make it on my plane. Fabric planes and stickers don't go together.

Il did the same thing to trucks they love stickers there and of course they get paid for them marty i was born in Joliet and lived there 50 years the sticker thing is so secretary of State can fill up his shoe boxes

Yeah, I grew up in Ill. Briings back memories. For those not aware, the shoe box ref is to one time Sec of State Paul Powell in the 60-70's. All registration checks were made out to just "Paul Powell" not "Secy of State..." When he died they discovered shoe boxes in his closet with over a half million in cash if memory serves. I'm sure the corruption has gotten more sophisticated but is still there. Thank god I'm not.

Oh, yea. We recently had two governors in Federal prison. One just got released to a halfway house, but they let him go home instead.

We have a couple of other legislators/senator who are probably going to be making reservations soon at a Federal Pen. near you.

The old joke about our politicians making our license plates fits Illinois.

I was told by a Federal Park employee, while visiting his boyhood home in southern Indiana, that Kentucky birthed him-Indiana raised him and Illinois claimed, (stole), him.

My A&P has told me, many years ago, that having the plate inside the cockpit being able to be seen (as in looking though the door) is perfectly legal. I have mine up on the panel behind the seat below the folder that holds my registration and Airworthiness Cert. All you have to do is look through the window and see it.

My last two BC12Ds had the data plate on the kick plate, bottom of right hand door, middle. The plate is required by reg.. My last one may be seen at the Casa grande airshow two weeks ago by going to antique airfield.com. It shows the deluxe paint job in case anyone wants to copy it. It is exact. It all so shows the polished prop which the new owner installed. He sold a brand new painted McCauley I had put on it as my AI said polished props of THIS SERIES were illegal. Different AI's seem to have different ideas. Personally I wouldn't think a taylorcraft would be the plane of choice for a drug dealer unless he were in dire straights.JC

Data plate and the DEA plate are two different things. The FAR on the DEA plate states where and how the information is to be displayed on the exterior of the aircraft.

Neither one of mine had this plate on it. Two FBI agents flew one of them as they had an 0200 j3 cub on the field. They were out of buffalo and flew a retractable Cessna 201 or similar loaded with radios to track drug types. They looked mine over carefully as they were impressed. Never mentioned this plate. The AI never mentioned one either. If I still owned either I doubt if I would worry much about it. JC

Nope, your A&P is wrong, it is very specific for the DEA plate, the aircraft data plate meets that requirement he is quoting. Tim

Jim, that polished prop if it is a McCauley or Sensenich it is not airworthy. They must be alodined to prevent corrision between the hardware, hub and prop. They are also required to have a painted tip so someone on the ground can see if the engine is running. Tim
