Re: Interest? Throttle knobs; wing tank & 131mph placards

    Josh,
I just finished turning copies of the two main types of knobs I have samples of and are in the pictures from around WW-II. I will send them to you this week.
    Hank

I will try and post photos tonight. Got to find the cable to download the pictures. ;-)

      Re: Interest?

Any chance of making ones for the L2? If so, I would like one for "DO NOT EXCEED 140MPH" and one "FLY SOLO FROM FRONT SEAT"

        Re: Interest?

Have you got any beat up ones or photos to use as a guide? If you want engraved ones I can get them and Josh does beautiful work with the embossed ones, but just one of anything will break the bank. If you want to make a run of a placard we should make them just like the original so others can use them too. That way we can spread the cost of tooling and design over several people.
Does anyone have anything to work from?

Josh, I have located both embossed ones for the Tandem. Front seat solo and do not exceed140. If you are interested I'll send them to you to duplicate. Dick

            Dick,

thanks. I got drawings from Ron Greene and they look pretty good, but can you confirm that both placards were embossed brass. The one drawing referenced a bronze background and brass lettering (not a problem if I can ever tarnish my stock) and the other doesn't make any reference to material. Can you confirm they are both embossed metal? If not, I can certainly do black on aluminum or brass.

            Thanks,
            Josh

              Re: Interest?

              Bob,

absolutely. The process is fairly simple and I'd be happy to do it as long as I can confirm that I have the right artwork and am doing it in the correct media. At the moment I'm leaning toward the "140MPH" and "FLY SOLO FROM FRONT SEAT" 'wings' placards in embossed brass. Unless I can confirm that they need to be something different, I'll do them this way and make them available as such.

              Thanks,

              Josh

                Hey Josh,

Not like you have anything else to do......I was curious how the control knobs were coming.
                Cheers,
                Marty

                  Re: Interest?

                  Hi Marty,

Hank sent me some great samples that he turned and I'm working on duplicating those in aluminum so I can lengthen the stems for a pouring sprue and then polish them. They're quite a bit smaller in diameter on the face than the one I wagged. Shouldn't be a problem, but it'll mean the lettering will need to be smaller to make it fit.

No ETA yet. I just got reassigned to weekend four day trips, so three days off at home makes for not much time to cut grass, do honey-dos and pack to leave again.

Is there someone we need to talk to to alleviate this work issue? It's cutting into your Taylorcraft time. Thanks and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Take care!
                      Cheers,
