  • A7 Mag Switch for sale

A7 magneto switch for sale. Believed little used. Very good condition, smooth action, some minor paint touch-up required.

Comes with original back guard and approximately 5 feet of cabling & shielding.

    Sensible offers?

Although I do see the A-7 markings this one is different than my A-7. Mine has a copper buss bar exposed on the back side. Larry

That's odd.the back has a start post & the face doesn't have a start position.

My A-7 DOES have a start post on the back. Darned if I know what it's for.

If these mag switches have 4 positions (Off, L, R, Both) I have no idea how they got a start post. If they have 5 positions they are simply newer start equipped switches with the older (harder to find switch) face plate. There was a ridiculous run on the A-7 mag switches a while back and the prices skyrocketed. I imagine there may have been a lot of them "rebuilt" with later parts.

I have seen the post on alot of them. It may be a saftey feature that when used on an aircraft with a starter button will not allow the engine to start if mag switch is in the off postion. This is the way A-9 switches are done but operate a little differently with the bat position. There are many variations of these switches. Also the switch is mounted in a shielded case as well which was usually found on military aircraft

Are you sure yours is not a Briggs and Stratton switch?

                    Robert,
I am interested in the switch-please call me @ 830-935-2294 or e-mail [email protected]. I am restoring a J-3 that has a key switch now.
                    Thanks,

Re: A7 Mag Switch for sale

Here you go. It is labled A-7, has only 4 detents, but has the start lug on the back. I had the switch looking beautiful untill I decided it needed to have its stamped lettering stand out in white. I was experimenting making the letters deeper by scratching out the paint but could not control the tool. Ended up ruining the paint job. However I found that a china marker works great without deepening the stampings after painting, so will just clean all lettering down to bare metal, resand, paint, put in the white, and seal with clear coat. I had the switch apart two years ago and cleaned and greased everthing but have decided the detent for "both" is not locking properly so I relutantly pulled it apart again to address that issue. At this point it looks like I will have to drill out the rivits to gain access that part of the switch. I am not sure I want to do that, sitting on the fence for a few more days as I contemplate that move.

I hate to say this but these switchs in good condition have been bringing over a $150 on eBay for the last two years. Ridiculus but supply and demand is the qualifier here. Larry

More than $150, last two I sold I got $275 for them, and have seen them sell higher than that. They will sell all day long over $200. They are not making this stuff anymore.
