  • Wayne Adams plane for sale

Sad to find out that Wayne Adams (46 or 47, not sure which) Taylorcraft project NC-96400 is for sale. I hadn't known he had passed and the plane is now in Concord Michigan being sold by a family friend. Wayne had stored her back in the 70s to restore and all of the logs are there back to the day she was test flown at the factory (and then bought by the test pilot).
The plane looks to be TOTALLY complete with the original serial number engine and wheel pants and skis. It is pretty rare to find a plane that has remained un-molested for this long and this looks to be a really nice project to take back to original with all the hard to find parts still in place.
We need someone close to the plane to take a look and get a pile of photos, followed by someone to get her for a good historic restoration. Don't be fooled by what looks like just a dirty old plane. She has been stored in a closed dry location for decades and these don't show up often. This could be the foundation for an AirVenture award winner.

Who lives close enough to go take an unbiased look?

It doesn't need to be an AirVenture award winner...it just needs a good home to get airworthy again.

Looks like a total mess just like every other I've seen, needs another COMPLETE restore. No disrespect meant.

Absolutely! This is NOT a quick clean and cover for a "nice" plane. She needs to be taken all the way down, BUT she should be COMPLETE and missing hard to find robbed parts are what kills a project. The difference between taking her clear down and making her a "nice" restoration and making her a show stopper isn't that much. Almost EVER problem I have had with the 45 has been missing small parts. Having been stored and not stripped is what makes it worth a look.

Looks like the current owner is asking for $5,000. When Wayne Adams passed on he left it to the current "caretaker" to pass it on. He does machine work and restores cars and tractors (some real beauties too) but he isn't into airplanes. The plane was in storage since the 1970s and is COMPLETE. He isn't on line so if someone is interested in a great project that won't need years searching for parts this could be it.

The plane is currently in Concord Michigan. Near the middle of southern Michigan. Is anyone close to there who could get more photos and do a quick look at completeness?

Did this project sell? If not, would someone pass along the owner contact info?
