Mike do you have any doors for an early 1946? The frame around the door attached to the fuselage is wood. Doors themselves are aluminum. Need some nicer than mine... I am fitting mine to close this week and Think they MAY work. The pilots side ain't the best but I have done as much as I can to make it look and fit...but I will never be truly happy with it even if others cannot tell.

Earliest post war doors were wood frame on the fuselage and the doors were "P" section steel tube (actually flat metal rolled into a "P" section). That was replaced with a few with sheet metal doors but still had the wood to close up the gape between the fuselage tubes and door frame. That was replaced by metal frames on the fuselage and a slightly different sheet metal door.

Open to corrections and additions. I am only going by what I have seen. My 42 has WOOD doors and wood door frames and the 45 is an early post war with tube doors and wood pieces to close up the gaps.

I wish mine were 1945 doors (perhaps I wish mine were a 1945. ) Lighter planes all throughout. Those doors on a 45 in my opinion were the best. Light and strong . Fabric covered tube doors. The aluminum doors at this stage are mostly beat to hell and not easy to make right. I think mine will pass to the average eye. I probably ought to "just" have new doors built. I could get it done but holy smokes !

CORRECT MIKE! At least as far as what I can tell! What I do know is mine is 43831 which was a late March or early April 46 completion. It has the aluminum doors that ARE CURVED THE TOP and of course larger than the prewar (given one an opening to the 45 degree brace along the seat is about all!) . Yup the door frame and all the stringers are wood! A bit of a unicorn.!

Might you have the trim pieces that attach to edge of sliding side windows (in the middle...felt attached to it).
