The handle with the screw in the middle is the inside handle. It is also on the right in the picture with an inside and outside handle. Door edge is the Dexter latch. Also not easy to find but I got parts for mine from an old time locksmith. The traditional old time lock smiths are great. You won't fair well at Home Depot or Lowe's. Got the mold boxes made to cast some handles (in and outside). Left the outside handle box on the kitchen table and the puppy got it and damaged it. All fixed now so maybe I will get a chance to cast some handles this weekend. Need to see what kind of reinforcement will be needed in the casting so the first ones will probably be tested to failure.

Hank Do you still need this handle? If so I will bring it up. It came off a 41 parts airplane I once owned (for some reason the name of Powell comes to mind as his dad had purchased the plane when New ??9..He had posted pictures of it here. It was painted Maroon and ivory I think) any way it is about the last thing I have from it.

Jim, that is the one I need! I just made a mold to cast a resin copy last night, but it was a last resort since past resin copies tended to break. Just not strong enough. I was going to try drilling a hole in the handle to insert a piece of steel wire this time, but it was a real Hail Mary shot. I am betting that might have been Buell Powell's plane. I haven't heard from him for some time. Buell? You still out there?

Jim, Tried to send you an IM but got a message I had to "subscribe" to send it. Applied but have never seen that before.

Yes I believe it was Buell Powells or his dad's plane .

I will bring the handle up with me when I come which will be very soon.

Have to admit, that handle would look a lot better on my '41 deLuxe than the Home Depot closet door handle that's on there now.

Peter, Like I told Jim, I just made a mold to make them and have gotten several different handles that I have used but always wanted to put ORIGINALS on my plane.....and one was missing. How about posting some photos of your plane. I am always watching for 41 Deluxe parts and have made tooling for a lot of details. A lot of 41 Deluxe trim stuff was only used on that ONE MODEL AND YEAR! I may have some goodies to help trick out your plane. I do have several handles that were really nice, just not original.

ID:	189792Sorry to be late but the wood door frames were replaced by metal in May 46 as stated by the letter. Even gives an NNumber. This also would be when the stringers, floor boards, trim tab, landing gear triangle all went to aluminum and the magnesium yokes appeared

                        Hank,

Thanks for the info. I have most of the deLuxe package - - all the important chrome pieces, banjo yokes, "floating panel",etc. About the only things I don't have are the hat rack, sissy straps, and door handles. N29780 is undergoing a SLOW restoration. When I get to the door handles part I'll look you up.

I have some sources for some handles that look really nice, just not original;. As I said, I made a new mold and will be making an inside handle for someone else (can't remember who right now) and will be doing he nested wire inside to make it stronger. Hope it works. I a sure there is enough "beef" to the outside handle to take the wire and not fail. After the casting is done the last time I burnished a piece of aluminum over the surface and it did come out looking nice. I have info on the hat shelf and Marty T may have a better source for shelf and glare shield material that doesn't turn to Oat Meal when it gets wet. My parts are from the old stuff and I avoid water like the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz!! The chrome strips SHOULD be stainless and not chrome plated. I WOULD NOT mount them with the wire clips used originally. If they pop out the slipstream will tear teh strip off. I made threaded clips that BOLT the strips to the cowl and they work well and are easy to make. Also when you restore your Banjo wheels not that they are Nickel plated, not chrome. Same with the shafts, but Nickel is softer and will wear through with use. If you get a good plating shop they can do a satin finish in chrome that looks like nickel. I am reworking my floating panel right now and have it apart. Do you have the original Mag switch or has someone cut a round hole for a later mag? I have everything to make the original look in the photo. Note the knob photo has what I THOUGHT the mag switch looked like and it is now being replace with one that is accurate. I also cast the knobs and can make more.

Jim, while digging through old photos I found this photo of Buell Powells 41 Taylorcraft. She sure was a beauty!

Was that his or his fathers? I recall him saying he restored his to look like the one his dad had which is the one I ended up with. (What was left of it) I hate to say I parted it out however parts went to other so theirs could live on. The last thing I had was the fuslage a d it went to a gent for his 41 restoration which I believe he said had been his dads! I keep up with him from Time to time.

Those 41s all dolled up are truly the bell of the ball. CG Taylors high water mark for sure.
