A Sensenich 72x42 would be considered a good climb prop. You could maybe even drop back to a 40 pitch, but that is a little more of an unknown on performance.

yes a 72X42 or 72X40 would be great!!!

What do you have for obstacles off the ends of the airstrip? The only reason I ask is because I'm fairly familiar with A-65 performance at our DA's. I'm running a Mac. 7443 and I really wouldn't want to run anything steeper that what I have. Most of the time it would work fine, but I think that there might be days where you'd have to be solo or stay on the ground. Have you been to the Seward flyin?

The McCauley 7445 is more of a mid-range prop (an all-rounder, if you will). Finer pitch like 7442 would be a good climb prop at the expense of cruise speed. It has to meet the Taylorcraft TCDS requirements of course.

I have a 7444 woody sensenich on a A-65 flying less than 1500ft. grass with trees on north end
This a cruise prop, if I had 3000Ft plus, it would work, most of the time. But I don't.

74" is to long. 72" for wood is the normal length, at least for a Sensenich prop. Other manufactures may rate their pitch differently.

My opinion, don't go more than a 7443. You'll gain some some performance going metal, but if you pitch it too hard you'll lose everything you just gained, all for a couple mph in cruise.

Most of the time it comes down to cost..You should be able to modify the propeller at a certified shop according to the performance of the engine and the aircraft. You may not get it right the 1st time...So consider acquiring what you can afford and go from there. Just my opinion..

Most of the time it's best to go with "new" whenever able...as a option consider what's listed below...

NEW McCauley Part Number 1B90/CM7447 (repitched by prop shop to 1B90/CM7448) Aircraft metal propeller for $2500. FAA 8130-3 tag attached.

Check with your local prop shop for cost to modify any prop to your specifications...

that is a good prop as a 7443 for an O-200
You only get 8 inches of pitch change for the life of a fixed pitch McCauley prop. Tim
