  • ailerons...value?

Hey all, I am considering another set of ailerons to replace mine when I put my airplane away for two or three month this winter. Trying to avoid any down time and after some work on mine I should be able to sell for the same price as the ones I buy. So I am only out some labor and minimal materials expense. A fellow has a set off a project that he wants $750.00 for. At very least I will have to inspect, patch and paint.

I have no idea as to what they are worth. Opinions will be appreciated.

Make sure you add in the cost of shipping! I have LOTS of ailerons in the hangar, but shipping them is a PITA.

Yep...for sure! If he were not in my area I would not consider it. Probably a couple hundred bucks in shipping if it were from the lower 48. A guy from Manitoba wanted to buy my Airframes lift strut that survived the wind storm. Exceeded the maximum length to ship by air. Lyndon wanted close to $500.00 to ship!

I had ten sets of Airframes struts shipped by air from Alaska to the UK with Korean Air (via Seoul) without any problems. I think your guy from Manitoba needs to find a new shipping agent.

This is the ten sets of struts at London Heathrow cargo centre upon delivery; it was hard work splitting them up into individual cases so as to be able to lift them!:

Robert if and when you get the time could you comment on the result of rigging several aircraft with Airframes' struts? I'm curious about the resulting dihedral of both the front and rear spars, and where in general you or others may have set the position of the rear strut adjustment screw in its mount to set washout. That's only if you measured the travel in screw turns from one end of the slot to the other. I realize it varies from plane to plane.

USPS, FedEx and UPS would not accept the strut. Airframes used them before they became so restrictive. KAL to Manitoba?

I have an account with them and have shipped a lot of large items, pallet sized and larger. I just shipped a 200# pallet across the country for $183....so YMMV

Gary, we had no issues whatsoever with the struts. Rigged as per the manual. Same dihedral as the original ones. I can't recall how many threads were exposed on the rear struts.
