  • A7 Magneto Switch

Anybody know a source for, or have to sell, an A7 mag switch? Missed one on Barnstormers. My restoration project, N43402, had one 40 years ago, but sometime in the ensuing years, someone removed it and put a dumb old key in it! Just missed the one on Barnstormers. Trying to stay as original as possible, without giving up a few comforts.

Look under the Stearman stuff on the Air Repair web site.

He sells all the parts to build your own.

If you have a bad one they are pretty easy to make a look alike cover from using a modern mag switch. You imbed the key in the lever you can just pull it out when parked away from home.
There will be less and less cores available now that parts are available.

        Gary,

Unfortunately, they are worth their weight in gold. Even the ones that need to be 'rebuilt'.

Here is the link for Air Repair: http://www.airrepairinc.com/a7-switch.html

I'm not sure if Air Repair has all of the parts required, though. I haven't found all of that on the website.
        Cheers,

I didn't think Taylorcrafts came from the factory with the A7. If you want to stay original, I think you should be looking for a Briggs & Stratton switch. Lon's '39 and my '46 both have them.

            Terry,

I have never seen, in ten years of Taylorcraft ownership, a B&S switch. Neither for sale or in a plane. I think that is how rare they are.

Anyone have a photo of a Briggs & Stratton switch? Not sure what they look like.

The above link for Air Repair can't be found from their home page... I emailed them inquiring about the replacement parts a few weeks ago, and received a cryptic reply stating "exchange only", nothing else, no price or instructions or anything else.

The Briggs & Stratton switch is identical to the A-7, its just not marked as such on the front, its marked "Briggs & Stratton" on the back side. The '41 Deluxe has one, but it needs to be rebuilt.

The link works fine for me. Their phone number, listed under their contacts link is 662-846-0228.

I just emailed airrepair's sales department and was told they don't sell the replacement parts, they only sell overhauled ones with a core exchange. Waiting to hear a price.

Be careful with the Briggs and Stratton switch. Most of them were pulled out years ago due to the AD against them. If you get one from any place with a, 'bay attached make sure you understand the AD.

                        It seems these handles vary.

Here is a switch exactly like the one in my '46 BC12D

And here is one exactly like the one in Lon's '39 BC-65

I always assumed these were B&S

The lower switch looks like the B&S switch. It should be marked on the back.

                            Hi all,

The AD's are on Briggs and Stratton B5 and A8 switches not A7's.

The lower switch is not an A7.
